APPARATUS FOR SWEEPING CHIMNEYS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 4, 1913.
Application filed June 20, 1912. Serial No. 704,818.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known'that we, OswALD LA'rzsoH, a subject of the Duke of SaXe-Altenburg, residing at Zschernitzsch, in the Dukedom of SaXe-Altenburg, Germany, and O'r'ro LA'rzsoH, a subject of the King of Saxony, residing at Lindenthal, in the Kingdom of Saxony, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Apparatus for Sweeping Chimneys, of
which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an apparatus for sweeping chimneys of that type in which the sweeping body proper is thrown up in the chimney by the detention of a spring so that when it comes down again the soot is scraped off the walls.
In the accompanying drawings the invention is shown by way of example.
Figure l is a longitudinal section of the casing for the spring. Fig. 2 is a plan. view of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 shows thecasing with the spring in elevation and the sweeping body proper in section. .Fig. 4 is a plan view of Fig. 3.
The casing for the spring consists of a rectangular foot I) which corresponds in size with the inner width of the chimney and further of a rectangular casing 0 mounted upon said foot. In thecasing c aniron rod 6 is fixed upon the bottom of the casing by means of a nut d. The upper end f of the rod 6 is threaded and a hand wheel 9 is screwed upon this threaded part which serves for compressing the spiral spring h. In the casing 0 a slide 2' is arranged'which,
sponds to the diameter of the iron rod 6.
The slide 2' is guided in grooves Z and m of.
the front and back walls of the casing 0. After the removal of the hand Wheel the sweeping body a (Fig. 3) is loosely placed upon the iron rod 6 so that when the slide dicating the height of the throw of the y We cla m:-

lower end of said rod, said slide having engagement with said rod when in inward po sition to hold said spring compressed, and a brush having outwardly extending fiber and a bore loosely fitting over the top of said rod, in position to be projected' upward by said spring when it is released, substantially as described and shown and for the purpose set forth.
