CHALK-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 13, 1912.
Application filed July 19, 1911. Serial No. 639,389.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS PELOQUIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Southbridge, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Chalk- Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to chalk-holders for billiard and pool tables, and its object is to provide an inexpensive device, which will enable players to conveniently chalk their cues without touching the chalk with their hands, and which will permit of the ready removal and insertion of the chalk.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of a portion of a pool-table with my improved chalk holder attached thereto, Fig. 2 is a front view thereof with the chalk removed, Fig. 3 is a rear view of the holder, and Fig. 4L on the line H of Fig. 2.
My improved chalk holder, as shown, comprises a top member or portion 1, provided with holes 2 for attachment by screws to the underside of a billiard or pool table, as shown in Fig. 1; and two vertical members or legs 3 and 4, depending from said top member. The front leg 3 has an opening 5, of suflicient size to permit the chalk to pass through the same, and an annular flange 7 surrounding said opening and projecting inwardly from the rear end of said leg. The rear leg 1 has an opening 8 formed therein, of smaller diameter than the chalk, and has projecting inwardly from its front face an annular flange 9 of the same diameter as the flange 7 The flanges 7 and 9 serve to support the chalk in position, and
Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the the opening 8 in the rear leg 4 enables the chalk to be pushed out of the holder by the finger, when desired. A substantially semicircular guide or cue-rest 10 is secured to and projects from the front face of the leg 3.
In use, the holder is screwed to the under side of the table, or some other suitable plane of support, and a chalk is inserted through the opening 5. Then, when a player desires to chalk his one, he simply places the tip end of the one on the guide 10 and proceeds in the usual manner. When the chalk is substantially used up, it is removed by pressure applied through the opening 8, and a fresh one substituted.
Obviously, if a square chalk is used, the openings and'flanges will be correspondingly shaped.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is g A chalk-holder, comprising a U-shaped frame, constructed and adapted to be attached to the underside of a billiard table by its transverse member, an annular flange projecting inwardly from each depending leg member, the latter having openings therein, within said flanges, one of said openings being of the same diameter as the inside diameter of said flanges and the other opening being of smaller diameter, and a segmental cue gulde secured to the outer side of the leg having the larger opening and located below the latter.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
LOUIS PELOQUIN.
