- UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CIGAR-HOLDER FOR BILLIARD AND POOL TABLES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 9, 1906.
Application filed December 27,1904. Serial No. 238,534;-
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ELMER E. HANKs, a resident of Winthrop Harbor, in the county of Lake and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigar-Holders for Billiard and Pool Tables, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention relates to cigar-holders for billiard and pool tables, and designs to provide a cigar-holder especially adapted'for use proved cigar-holders. Fig. 2 is a vertical section through the cigar-holder and a portion of the table. Fig. 3 is a perspective of Fig. 4 is a similar view of a modified form of the cigar-holder.
A denotes a billiard-table or the like having the usual corner-rails a projecting from the upper corners thereof. The holder B, usually formed of sheet or thin metal, comprises a rest 12, adapted to hold a cigar having an upturned edge I), which prevents lateral displacement of the cigar, and provided with a finger-opening 6 which exposes a portion of the cigar for convenience in placing a cigar on the holder and removing it therefrom. The rest is rather narrow, so it will hold a cigar beneath the projecting corner-rail and not roject beyond the outer edge of the rail. Suc construction and arrangement of holder provide a device whereby a cigar can be held in convenient reach of a player and from which it will not be accidentally displaced by a player passing around the table, because the corner-rail shields a'cigar held on the rest from contact with the clothes of a player.
The holder comprises a side wall or plate b which protects the finished side of the table from contact with a cigar on the rest, and an extension 6 formed to fit against the bottom of the corner-rail. The holder is also extended, as at 6 to overlie the corner-rail, and this extension, being visible, locates the holder for the player. If desired, portions of'the holder can be perforated, so the holder can be secured by screws 0.
In Fig. 4 is shown a modified form of the invention in which the overlying extension of the holder is omitted.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new, and desire to obtain by Letters Patent, is
1. A cigar-holder for billiard-tables and the like, consisting of a rest for holding the cigar, a rear vertical wall, and a forward extension at the upper end of said wall projecting horizontally beyond the front edge of said rest, said parts being apertured to receive holding-screws.
2. A cigar-holder for billiard-tables and the like, consisting of a rest for holding the cigar, a rear vertical wall, a forward extension at the upper end of said wall projecting horizontally beyond the front edge of said rest and then bent upwardly and then rearwardly to embrace the rail of the billiard-table, said parts being apertured to receive holding-screws.
