Description

ISAAC C. SHULER, OF AMSTERDAM, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN COFFINS.
i Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 105,377, dated July 12, 1870.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ISAAC C. SHULER, of Amsterdam, in the county of yMontgomery and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Coffin; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descrip tion of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, making a part of this specification. i
My invention consists in providing wooden cofns with metal beading, for the purpose ot' l causing them to similate the more expensive class of eoflins having inserted or raised panels. v
In the drawing, Figure 1 represents a coffin lid or top with a metallic bead-frame attached; and Fig. 2 is a cross-section of Fig. 1
on the line a: w, showing a prefered method of u t attaching the beading.
The metal beading or frame B may be of y any preferred design or configuration, and of any preferred size.
I design attaching the same to the top, sides,
and ends of a coffin by means of screw-bolts a, which work in slots, to allow for swelling of the wood.
The bolts may pass through metal plates or disks, for the purpose of preventing the heads Vof the same from abrading the wood, as shown in Fig. 2, andthe frame may also be grooved or rabbeted to adapt it to secure the glass, as in Fig. 1.
Although preferring the form of beading and the method of attachment illustrated and described, I do not limit myself thereto, since these may be varied without departing from the spirit of my invention.
What I esteem to be new, and hold to be of niy invention, is-
As an article of manufacture, a coffin with imitation panels formed by metallic beading, as described.
rEhe above specification ot' my inventionsigned'by me this 6th day of June, 1870.
ISAAC C. SHULER.

a AUGUSTUS CLARK,
JEREMIAH WATSON.
