IMPROVEMENT IN HAND-MIRRORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 52,551, dated February 13, 1866.
To all whom it may concern:
Beitknown that l, JOHN EFARIS, ot' the city of Baltimore, Baltimore county, and State of Maryland, have invented a new and useful Improvenient in Hand-Mirrors for Toilet Purposes, by means of which the frames ofthe mirrors are made to serve the further usetul purpose of distributing advertisements and givin g them publicity; and l do hereby declare that the following is a full,clear, and exact description of the construction and operation ot' the same, reference beingvhad to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in Which- Figure lis front View ot' a mirror in which my invention is carried out, and Fig. 2 is a vertical cross-section of the same. y A is a mirror, of any usual form, such as circular, oval, or polygonal. In thepresent case it is circular. B is the frame, and G the handle, all of the ordinary construction eX-` cept the frame, which is inade much Wider than usual, and provided with an inner beading, D, and an outer beading E, raised above the general surface ot the frame, as clearly seen in Fig. 2, so as to form rims or secondary frames inclosing au annular plane surface, B, upon which are printed, pasted, or otherwise attached a number of advertisements in such a manner as toniill up the space between the beadings D and E, which then form notonl y an ornamental finish around the circle ot' advertisements, but serve to protect such advertisements from the liability to injury incident to the ordinary use of such mirrors.
' This invention is so simple and its object and use so -obvious as to require no further eX- planation.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A hand-mirror having a plane surrounding the same, adapted for inscriptions and ornamentation, and protected by ianges, all substantially as shown and described.
