Be it known that I, FRANKLIN R. WHITE,
a citizen of the United States, and a resident of'VVaterbury, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have made and invented certain new and useful Improvements in Buttons, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to buttons designed to be permanently attached to a garment by means of a staple, the prongs of which are bent or clenched about a bar in the act of securing the button to a garment, and the object thereof is to provide an improved button of thetype above specified which may be easily manufactured, which will be strong and effective for the purpose for which it is designed, and one which is so formed as to be readily used with certain types of button setting machines, which, however, form no part of the invention disclosed and claimed in this particular application.

From the foregoing it will be understood that by formin a button with'a hub having two flattened sldes, the button may be to to the button-setting mechanism with its bail 5 extending cross-Wise of the chute through whichv the button is fed to the button-setting mechanism, thus insuring the proper bar and fastening staple, which would not be the case if the button were provided with a hub of cylindrical shape and pennitti g it to turn or 1113 button-setting mechanism.

Having thus described my invention 1 claim and desire to secure by- Letters Patent 1., A button having an enlarged head pro vided with a central opening, and a hub projecting frdm said head and through which the button is secured to a garment, said hub. having an inwardly extending flange at .its lower end and a bar extending across the lower end of the saidhub, and said flange and bar bemg mteg al with said hub, and a reinforcing memberadapted to rest upon said flange and having a diametrically extending bar adapted to register with said first mentioned bar, the wall 'of said hub being forced inward at two sides intermediate the ends thereof, to thereby form inwardly extending projections above said reinforcing member, and the lower end of said hub being of greater diameter than the minimum diameter of the hub at the flattened portion thereof.
