Description

Matted Stairs WILLIAM MILLER, OF- OIIICOIEE, MASSAGHUSTIS.
Lette/rs Patent No. 105,232, dated July 12, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN WEATHER-STRIP.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making pan of the same.
To all-whom 'it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WpILLrAM MILLER, of Chicopee, in the county of Hampden and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Teather-Strips; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part'of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements' in weatherstrips, such as patented to me the 4th day of May, 1869, No. 89,785, and consists in van improved construction of and manner of attachingV the spring, by which the lower vibrating strip is confined to the npperstrip or bracket, which isfattachcd to the door.
Figure l is a rear-side elevation of my improved weather-strip, and f Figure 2 is a transverse section ofthe same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The stripA, which isattached to the door, is provided 'at the under sidewith a semicircular groove, and the vibrating strip Bis provided at the top with the semicircnlar rib, fitting the tube to be confined therein by springs, as in the aforesaid patent.
The presentinvention consists in making the springs of a loop of wire, a, and attaching them to the part A by coiling each part of the loop around a short stud, C, and extending it back in the recess in the said part A, while the bight of the loop rests in the recess in the part B, the said studs being attached to a block ofmetal, c, and secured in the recess in the part Aby a screw, d.'
The coils are prevented from 'slipping oii` the studs by the end walls of the slot.
In the aforesaid patent the two parts are represented as connected together by at springs of steel or other metal7 which is more expensive and more liable to break than this arrangement.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with the vstrips A B, of the wire;
springs a, studs l), and blocks c, all constructed and arranged substantially as specified.
WILLIAM MILLER.
