Description

J. G. MORGAN.
SHAVING BRUSH.
Patented Jan. 28, 1913.
JACK C. MORGAN, OF
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR 0F ONE-HALF TO ROBERT J'. CONWAY, 013 LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
SHAVING-BRUSH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed September 24, 1912.
Patented J an. 28,1913. Serial No. 722,103.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JACK C. Monoax, a citizen of the United States, residing atFLos Angeles, in the county of Los .Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Shaving-Brushes, of which the :t'ollowving is a specification.
The invention relates to brushes and has for an object to provide a shaving brush 't'or retaining the brush body of .the shaving brush in spaced relation to the shelf or sill upon which the shaving brush is placed.
The invention embodies, among other features, a shaving brush having a weighted end in which the weight can be adjusted relatively to the brush so that when theshaving brush is placed upon a. sill or shell the brush body of the shaving brush will at. all times be spaced from the sill or shelt and will not come in contact therewith, the shaving brush being adapted to lie in a plane perpendicular to the shelf or sill or at an acute angle thereto.
In the further disclosure of the invention reference is to be had to the :mcompanying drawings, C(H'lStlilltlIlg a part of this spec-itieation, in which similar characters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the views, and in which:
Figure 1 a perspective view of the shaving brush showing the same in vertical position; Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the brush, showing the same reposiug upon a shelf and in an Lnclincd position; Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 53*?) in Fig. 2; Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional view of a modified form of brush showing the same in vertical position; and Fig. 5 is a similar view showing the modified form at the brush in. an inclined position.
Referring more particularly to the views, I employ a shaving brush it) including a handle ll and a brush body 12, the brush body 12 preferably consisting of a series of bristles i the inner ends of which are seated and secured within the handle ll in any suitable manner. The handle ll. terminates in a cylindrical reduced shank l lthreaded on the periplmry thereof and provided at the lower end with a knob 15'). A weight 16, preteralrly consisting of a collar 17 made of some heavy n'iaterial, has
threaded connection with the shank l4 and encircles the same, the said weight 16, in view of the threaded connection with .the
when the shaving brush 1() is placed upon a shelf or sill the knob 15 will support the shaving brush upon the shelf and the weight 16 will tend to hold the shaving brush so that the brush body thereof will be in spaced relation to the shell. Now it the weight is moved upwardly a slight distance on the shank, and the shaving brush is placed upon a shelf or sill, the shaving brush will tend to tilt in view of the fact that the weight 16 is spaced at distance from the lower end of the shank. The shaving brush 10, however, will be prevented from tilting to a position that will cause the brush body 12 to contact with the shelt or sill in view of the provision of the collar 17, cmistituting the weight 16, and which, when the shaving brush tilts, will engage the shelf or sill, thus tor-ming two points of contact to support the shaving brush in tilting position, as will be readily understood by referring to Fig. 2. If desirable, a pin '1 I can be placed upon the shank .l-t to project, therefrom, thus preventing the weight '16 from being entirely. removed -from the shank 14, the said pin being mounted on the shank a slight distance from the lower end thereof, as shown.
l n l igs. 2t and l l'disclose a modified form of brush and in which I employ a shaving brush 1% including a handle 1.5) and a brush body 20, the shaving brush 18 being similar to the shaving brush 10 but having the handle '19 thereof spherical in shape and hollow. A weight ll is loosely mounted within the hollow portion of the handle J5) and the handle in the lower portion thereof is provided with an elongated slot 22, through which is passed a pin 23 having threaded connection with the weight 21, a head 24 ot the pin 23 constituting a means for adjusting the weight 2t within the handle it), will be readily seen by referring to the views, it being understood that the head 24 is of a greater diameter than the width of the slot 22 so that when the pin 23 is tightened up on the handle '19, the weight 21 will be held rigidly within the handle and when the in 23 is loosened relatively to the handle 19,
