The body l of my improved match box is cylindrical in form, is made of any suitable sheet metal or other suitable material, is closed at one end as at 2 and is open at the other end, as at 3, and has a closure o-r cap 4 provided for the open end, the cap or closure and the bodyv of the match box being' provided with coacting screw threads 5 to enable the cap or closure to be readily secured to the match box or removed there- 0n the inner side of the body of the match box is a partition 5 which extends annu larly around the match box on t-he inner side of the Wall thereof and is composed of a corrugated pla-te of sheet metal or other suitable material, the corrugations of which form compartments 6 each of Which is adapted to receive a single match. The space Within the vpartition Wall forms a chamber 7 for the reception of a number of matches in mass so that the match box is adapted not `lonly t-o hold matches singly but also to hold them grouped in a mass. The closed end`2-of the match box is provided With a series of annularly arranged openings 8 each of which communicates With one end of one of the single match receiving compartments 6. 0n the said end 2 of the match box is a closure 9 which is centrally- Specicaton of Letters Patent. I pivoted thereon as at 10 so that the said closure is mounted for rotation on the closed end of the match box. This closure is provided With an opening 1l at one side Which by turning the closure may be placed in registry With any one of the openings 8 which communicate With the single match holding compartment 6 and thereby enable a match to be delivered from any one of the said compartments as Will be understood to enable theclosure 9 to be readily turned, so as to dispose its opening 11 in registration With any one of the openings 8, I form the said closure, which .is preferably made of spring sheet metal, With a' lip 12 Which vis outturned therefrom and serves as a handle. The said closure, by reason of its being constructed of spring sheet metal, and by reason of its being centrally pivotally mounted on the closed end 2 of the match box, grips the said closed end 2 of the match box frictionally so that it remains in any position from. turning casually and, hence, also from casually opening any of the compartments 6. In order to place the matches in the match box, it is preferable to irst remove the cap or closure 4 and the matches may then be placed readily in the match box both in the single match receiving compartment 6 and in the compartment` 7. However, the matches can, if preferred, be placed in the single match receiving compartment 6 through the openings, by first appropriately turning the closure 9. f

Owing to the fact that the cap or closure 4.- is securely screwed to the body -of the match box, the latter is rendered substantially Waterproof and, hence, the matches in the match box are prevented frombecoming injured b v Wet and moisture. Moreover, the matches may be singly ejected or delivered from the match box Without the necessity of touching them until after they have been projected so ufar from the match box that they may be grasped at a distance from the heads and, hence, a person even With Wet fingers, can readilyl obtain a. match from the match box and secure a light Without the risk of injuring preventing it from failing to ignite when struck.

My improved match box owill be found extremelv useful bypersons Who lead an outdoor life, hunters, campers, and trappers, soldiers and the like and vfill also be .found in Which it may be placed and is prevented theymatch by moisture and useful by persons Who Work in ofice and by professional men.

v While I have herein shown and described a preferred form of my invention, I would have it understood that minor changes may be made in the form, construction and oombination of the several parts Without departing from the spirit of my'invention.

I claim A cylindrical match box closed at one end, open at the opposite end and having an outer Wall and an inner Wall, the latter being1 corrugated longitudinally and its corrugations, in connection with the outer Wall, forming single match receiving compartments, the closed end of the box having openings each of whichl communicates With amai/ie one of said compartments, and the space Within the said inner Wall forming a common match receiving compartment; a removable closure on the ropen end of the match box and affording,r access to all of the match receiving compartmcnts and a closure revolubly mounted on the closed end of the boX and having an opening Which may be moved into registry with any ofthe single match receiving' compartments.
