Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES H. PEARDON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Palmyra, in the county of Jefferson and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful Chimney-Cleaner, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to chimney cleaning devices, its object being to provide a simple and efiective cleaner that may have either a handle or a rope and weight attached thereto for operating it.

With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In the accompanying drawings the preferred form of the invention has been shown.

In said drawings: Figure 1 is a side elevation of the cleaner with a handle attached to it. Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the cleaner with the screw eye removed. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the handleattaching screw. Fig. 4 is a detail view of a screw eye which may be used for connecting a cable or rope to the block of the cleaner. Fig. 5 is a section on line AB of Fig. 1.

Referring to the figures by characters of reference 1 designates a block preferably of wood and rectangular, and secured to one face of this block, as by means of fastenings a, is a scraper preferably formed of four plates 3, the ends of which are cut diagonally so as to fit together snugly. The outer edge portions of these plates project beyond the margin of the block.

Bristles are secured to and extend from the marginal portion of the block 1 and project short distances beyond the outer edges of the plates 3.

Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing these-bristles are spaced from the scraper plates so as thus to be free to flex toward the plates.

A screw 5 normally extends into the center of the block 1 at one side and has a disk like head 6 secured in any suitable manner to one end of a handle 4. Thus it will be seen that, by means of this handle, the cleaner can be moved upwardly and downwardly within a chimney so as to bring the scraping plates 8 into engagement with the walls and also to bring the bristles into contact with them.. The scraping plates will dislodge incrustations from the walls, while the bristles will brush the soot, etc., from the chimney.

The screw eye 8 extends into the center of the block 1 directly opposite the screw 5 and, should it be desired to employ a rope and weight, instead of the handle 4, for actuating the cleaner, a suitable weight, not shown, may be attached to the eye 8 while a screw eye 7, such as shown in Fig. 4 may be substituted for the screw 5 and handle 4. A rope can then be attached to the screw eye 7 and by this means the weighted cleaner can be lowered into a chimney and then pulled upwardly so as thus to thoroughly clean the walls of the chimney.

What is claimed is A chimney cleaner, composed of a rectangular block forming the main body of the cleaner, brush bristles secured to and projecting from four sides of the block, and a sheet metal scraper composed of four sections, each of the sections being secured upon the face of the block and having its free edge disposed beyond the sides of the block and terminating within and parallel to the outer ends of the bristles.
