Be it known that I, GEORGE B. GREEN, of Philadelphia, inV the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented `a new and useful Improvenient in .Door and Shutter-Bolt; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and vexact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make 'and use the same, reference being had totlie'accompanying drawing forming part of this specification. y s

The object of this invention* is to provide a durat i. ble, safe, and ornamental bolt-fastening for door-sand shutters, and to be employed in all situations where it may be found useful; and

It consists in the use of a lslotted sliding bolt, and

" in plates of ornamental casting, or ornamental plates i struck lup or swaged of any` form or size or design,

which plates are attached to the studs which pass i through the doors4 or shutters.

The stud D passes through this slot and through'the shutter, where itis riveted on thc outside, as seen in` the drawing. Thisslot E allows the bolt to be shot back andforth while it is permanently attached to -the shutter. shutter in the same manner, but the fasteningis made by means of an open slot, F, in the end of the bolt,

which slips-onto the stud D, wherethe bolt is shot,

and forms the fastening.

form ahandsome finish on the shutters, whether they are closed or open. The bolt plays between the plat-es., Lf

' The small friction-plates g are placed in a vertical position on the cores or stops connected with the plates and the'studs, and while they serve as friction surfaces for the b olt, they alsoserve as heads for thestuds in riveting to the shutter.

I am aware that a slotted bolt, a latch with a notchI near vthe end, a stud and screw,so1id'or hollow, with single or double head, are none ofthem new whenv taken severally; but
