I Letters Patent No, '104,449, Vdated June 21, 1870.
IMPR'ovEMzzNT IN vBoirrrs vP013 DooRs'ANn SHUTTERS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
Be it known that I, GEORGE B. GREEN, of Philadelphia, inV the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented `a new and useful Improvenient in .Door and Shutter-Bolt; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and vexact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make 'and use the same, reference being had totlie'accompanying drawing forming part of this specification. y s
The object of this invention* is to provide a durat i. ble, safe, and ornamental bolt-fastening for door-sand shutters, and to be employed in all situations where it may be found useful; and
It consists in the use of a lslotted sliding bolt, and
" in plates of ornamental casting, or ornamental plates i struck lup or swaged of any` form or size or design,
which plates are attached to the studs which pass i through the doors4 or shutters.
In the accompanying drawing-V Figurel is an inside View of the fastening, showing the shutters closed and the i'steningcomplete Figure 2 is a vertical section `of lig. `1 throughthe Figure 3 is a horiontalyscetion of fig. 1 through the Y line y y. i

A A"rcprescnts a pair of shutters to which the bolt is applied.x
B is the sliding bolt, which is shot back and forth in fastening and unfastening.
C G represent the ornamental plates which are attached to the inner ends of the studs D D.
E is a slot -in the bolt B, by means- Aof which the "bolt is permanently connected with thc shutter A.
The stud D passes through this slot and through'the shutter, where itis riveted on thc outside, as seen in` the drawing. Thisslot E allows the bolt to be shot back andforth while it is permanently attached to -the shutter. shutter in the same manner, but the fasteningis made by means of an open slot, F, in the end of the bolt,
which slips-onto the stud D, wherethe bolt is shot,
and forms the fastening.
'g g are small metallic platesbetween the bolt and the shutter, to prevent the bolt from wearing cr marring thev shutter,` and to act as a head or stop for the studs in rivet-ing. 4 v
h h are rings attached to the plates O C', `for handling or closing the shntter. `By this arrangement the plates G O' are drawn tightly toward the shutter in riveting the studs, and
form ahandsome finish on the shutters, whether they are closed or open. The bolt plays between the plat-es., Lf
C and the shutter. v
' The small friction-plates g are placed in a vertical position on the cores or stops connected with the plates and the'studs, and while they serve as friction surfaces for the b olt, they alsoserve as heads for thestuds in riveting to the shutter.
I am aware that a slotted bolt, a latch with a notchI near vthe end, a stud and screw,so1id'or hollow, with single or double head, are none ofthem new whenv taken severally; but
NVhat I esteem as my invention, and desire to protcct by Letters Patent,I is- The combination of slotted bolt B, studs D I), and
ornamental yplates G C', all constructed and brought together to form the whole or device shown and desc1'ibcd,"and for the purpose specified.
