' State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Holders for Gramophone-Records, of which the following is a full, clear," and exact description,

reference being had to the accompanying 10 drawings, which form a part of this speci- The object of my invention is to produce a holder for gramophone and other records which 'will have the advantage of cheapness, simplicity and durability and which 'will hold the records securely in place while per-' mitting them to be readily removed.

The nature of the invention will be clear from the accompanying drawings, which I of anouter cover and internal leaves.

The main parts of the structure consist It will be observed that the blank for the cover is composed of a single sheetof card-board h or other stiff material which is scored along transverse'lines to form the narrow end sections a and b, the narrow central section 0 and the wide sections (2 and 0 between a and c and between 6 and 0 respectively. The scored sheet of card board is then bent into a :box form and the ends a and b overlapped and secured together by the fasteners 00. There is thus formed a cover having a face d and back 6 of an area approximating in dimensions those of the record, narrow sides a b and c, and open ends Into the open ends of the cover are slipped anumber (say three) of leaves 7 similar in contour to the face and back ofthe cover.

Both the leaves and the face and back of the cover are provided with registering holes h, 2', 7a, m, n, 0. These holes are arranged along a line which corresponds approximately to the contour of therecords to be inserted in the holder. along a circular line'whosecenter is located at about the center of theholder and whose ,radius is approximately.equal to the radius of the" circular gramophone rccords. thence through holes in from front to back.

In a similar manner the tape is threaded through the holes on, a and 0 on the other The ends of the tape are then secured together. The endless securing tape is of such length as to leave a certain amount of slack between the holes.

The face (Z and back 0 of the cover, and the leaves f. are, at the front end of the cover, cut a. ay to form curved indentations or recesses r. and, at the rear end of the cover cut away to formsimilar. smaller recesses s, which latter recesses are of sufficient depth to intersect the line along which the holes 7L, 2', etc. are arranged.

In practice, the flat records 25 are inserted into the several compartments formed between the leaves and between the leaves and cover. Where, as is shown in the drawings, three leaves are inserted, four compartments will be formed. After'all the compartments are filled, the combined thickness of the leaves and the records will be about equal to the width of the narrow sides of the cover. Thus the records will be securly-con fined in their respective compartments.

In inserting the records, their extent of insertion is limited by the sections of tape extending from face to back of the cover through the several holes, and in view of the arrangement of these holes along a line which corresponds approximately to the contour of the records, the edges of the records 'willenga'ge', and be supported by, the tape at various points across the holder.

After the records are inserted, the edges of the records will project, at one point in their common margin within the recesses s. In removing any particular record, it is only necessary to place the finger against the edge projecting within the recesses s and push the record forward until its ;opposite edge proof shallow box-shape havin jects beyondv the other records, whereupon it may be grasped at its'opposite edge and be readily withdrawn.

Having now fully described my invention, what I claim and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:

1. A holder for records comprising a non- .expansible box-shaped. ver comprising a face, back, and two narrow closed sides and having two open ends, independent. leaves inserted within the cover, and securing means engaging the leaves and cover near one open end and holding the same together.

2. A holder for records comprising a cover of shallow box-shape having two opposite open ends, leaves inserted within the cover, said leaves and cover near one open end having a number of registering orifices, and a tape threaded through said orifices and holding the leaves and cover together;

3. A holder for records comprising a cover two opposite open ends, leaves inserted wlthin the cover, said leaves and cover near one open end having a row of registering orifices arranged along a line corresponding to the contour of the records to be inserted, and a tape threaded through said orifices and holding the leaves and 'cover together.

4. A holder for records comprisinga cover of shallow box-shape having two opposite open ends, leaves inserted within the cover, said leaves and cover near one open end having a row of registering orifices arranged across the holder, and a tape threaded through said orifices and of such a length as to provide a degree of 'slackness when the holder is empty, whereby when the records are inserted the tape will be drawn substantially taut.

5. A holder for records comprising a cover of shallow box shape having an open end for the reception of the records, leaves inserted within the cover and forming between themselves and between themselves and the cover record-compartments, and securing means engaging the leaves and cover at the opposite end of the holder, said cover and leaves having registering recesses at the last named end of the holder to facilitate the removal of the records.

6. -A holder for records comprising-a cover open ends, leaves inserted within the cover, said leaves and cover near one open end having a number of registering orlfices, a tape threaded through the orifices and holding the leaves and cover together, said cover and leaves having relatively small registering indentations at the last-named end of the holder and relatively large registering indentations at the opposite or record-insertingend of the holder.

7. A holder for records comprising a cover of shallow box-shape having two opposite open ends, leaves inserted within the co er, said leaves and cover near one open end having a row of registering orifices arranged along a line corresponding to the contour of the records to be, inserted, a tape threaded through said orifices and holding the leaves and cover together, said leaves and .cover having along their edges at the last-named end of the holdereentral indentations intersecting the line along which said orifices are arranged.

8. A holder for records comprising a cover composed of narrow end sections and a narrow central section and wide sect-ions between said central section and end sections, said cover being folded into box form and the narrow end sections overlapped and secured together, the said wide se ,tions being provided, along one longitudina edge of the cover with relatively large centrally located indentations and along the other longitudinal edge of the cover with relatively small centrally-located indentations, internal leaves corresponding in size and contour with the wide sections of the cover, said leaves and wide sections near the end of the holder provided with the smaller indentations, having a row of registering orifices arranged across the holder along the arc of a circle whose center is located at about the center of the holder, and atape threaded alternately from front to back of the holder,

first in one direction and then in the other together and the tape being of such length as to provide a degreeof slackness adapted to be taken up by the lnserted records.
