i Application tiled Rovember .1
Thisinvention relates to hbldersfor tickets,
such as commutation and trip railroad, tick--'- ets, andjitlis object of the, invention to, provide a holder, which. is in the nature of a folder to serve as an enclosing protector for" a the ticket when not in use and stored away in, 1
' a pocketlor walletfandby which theticket without removalfromits holder'may be readily Presented t-OQaQconductOnfOr. observation: and punching, and to provide a holder'for this purpose which-is novel, simple andcheap instructure C It is another object ofjtl 'e invention to combinewith 1a=-ticket,h0lder ofgthis character a time-table by printing thereon, preferably on the inner surface thereof, a schedule of the running time of trains betweenthe points or stations for which the ticket is issued, said i folder being adapted to have matter printed thereon, preferably on the outer surface,
whereby the holder may also serve as an adsche vertising medium. y a
In carrying out the invention I provide a sheet of material, preferably relatively stiff though flexible paper, and print on one surface thereof a schedule of the running time of trains, and print on the other surface matter, such as advertisements, and fold said sheet upon itself to form a folder, said sheet bein referably folded so that the printed dulb will be on the inside. I attach to the inner surface of the sheet a stripor tab extending transversel thereof and between which strip and the fo der a ticket is engaged to hold the ticket along a marginal portion thereof, saidstrip or tab being arranged so that the ticket will extend in juxtaposed relation to one flap of the folder and when the ,of the folder moved to open position to obfolder is folded the ticket will be enclosed and protected thereby. The strip or tab is arranged so that the ticketmay he slid outward from the folder, or the folder and ticket may be bent or flexed laterally one from each other, for ready presentation to a conductor to be observed and punched byhim.
V In the drawings accompanying and formin a part of this specification,
igure 1 is a perspective viewlooking at the front of the device inclosed condition.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the holder shown in Figure 1 with a portion of one flap serve a schedule or other matter printed on the inner'surface thereof; and
Figure 3 is aperspectlve V1W Of the holder ticket to the conductor in positi onto be; read the folder as comprising two flaps it'willbe o, 1924. Serial No. 749,080.
shown in Figure '1;=showingtheholder in; open condition andone flap iand theqticket bent" apart" from each other to present; the
ily punched'by him. 1 r
In carryingbut tl1e ;embodiment of the 1nvent1on, a sheet. of paper, preferably rela-L tlvely stifl' though flexible) is foldedupon ltself to forma! folder having flaps 6 ,7 and the running schedule of trains printed; onthe innerisurface and advertising matter on the outer surface thereof: ToRada-pt the folder-as a holder for a ticket T, such;
as a railroad commutation .or trip ticket,
issued for use between designated points-or stations on a railroad, a holding strip or tab 8 of transparent andflexible material, cel luloid and the like havingbeen found desirable for this purpose, whereby printed matter below said strip may be observed through the same, is attached by staples 9 at the outer marginal portion of one of the fiaps in the present instanceflap7 and at. the portion-of the folder adjacent the fold of the flaps to' extend parallel with said fold, a marginal portion of the ticket being engaged between said strip andthe flap to hold the ticket by.
the folder, the engagement of the ticket beyond the strip being limited by the abutment of the edge of the ticket against the fold of the flaps, or such engagement of the ticket may be limited by a staple 10 intermediate the ends of the strip. In this arrangement to facilitate the reading of the time table on the inner side of the fold be- 9 lowv the ticket, and also to facilitate the presenting of the ticket to the conductor for inspection and punching, the flap 7 is arranged with atransverse weakened portion, as by scoring, on a line parallel with the fold and spaced from the fold a distance substantially equal tothe width of the strip,
as at 11, whereby said flap 7 may be bent laterally on said scored line as shown in Figure 2. The ticket is of less width and length than the flaps of the folder so that when the folder is folded the ticket will be enclosed within and protected by the flaps.
While I have illustrated and described obvious that the folder may be composed v of three or-more flaps with the ticket-holding strap 8 attached to one of the flaps. It will also be understood that various modifications may be made in, detail arrangement 11o of parts, and that portions of the invention may be used without others and come within the scope of the invention.
Having thus described my invention I claim:
1. In a holder for railroad tickets, a folder comprising a sheet folded upon itself to divide the sheet into flaps and having printed thereon a schedule of the running time of trains and having other printed matter thereon to adapt the folder as an advertising medium, and a strip of transparent material attached to the sheet with one edge extending transversely of and contiguous to the fold for the engagement of a ticket hetween said strip and the folder, and said sheet arranged with a weakened portion to extend transversely and parallel to the fold and spaced from the fold a distance equal to the width of the strip whereby said flap of the folder may be readily bent laterally for the presentation of the ticket for punching to the conductor.
2. In a combined time table and holder for a railroad ticket, a folder comprising a sheet folded upon itself to form a pair of flaps having printed thereon a schedule of the running time of trains and other printed matter thereon to adaptit as an advertisin 'g medium, a strip of transparent material at tached to a flap of the folder with one edge adjacent to and extending parallel with thr fold of the flaps of the folder for the engagement of a ticket between said strip and flap to hold the ticket at an edge portion thereof, and the flap of the folder to which the strip is attached arranged with scoring in aline parallel with the fold of the flap and spaced a distance therefrom equal to the width of the strip to provide said flap with a weakened portion to facilitate the bending of the flap on said scoring to read ily present the ticket to and for punching by a conductor.
Signed at New York city, in the count of New York and State of New York this 3rd day of June, 1924.
