W. L. LEDINE RAILROAD TICKET HOLDER, TIME TABLE, AND ADVERTISiNG DEVICE Filed May 10, 1922 m4. ROAD RAIL ROA'B TIME TABLE v MEN-ma. W .Lecline,
Patented Oct. 27, 1925.
UNITED STATES WENDELL L. LEJIXCNE, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
RAILROAD TICKET HOLDER, TIME TABLE, AND ADVERTISING DEVICE.
To aZZ whom it may concern Be it known that I, VENDELL L. LEDINE, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at New York, N. Y., have invented a new and useful Railroad Ticket Holder.
.Time Table, and Advertising Device, of
which the following is a specification.
The main object of my invention is to provide a combination device for railroad tickets such as commutation and trip tickets in which the time table of trains between the stations for which the ticket is issued are printed together with advertising matter. In carrying out this object I have sought to facilitate the production and distribution of such devices in such manner as to make them practicable to produce and issue as well as convenient to use.
In its preferred form the device comprises a folder adapted to carry a ticket which is connected at one end to the folder by means of an adhesive strip which constitutes a hinge.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a folder with an adhesive strip for a ticket attached. Figure 2 shows the folder opened out and with the ticket attached. In dotted lines this figure also shows the position of the ticket when it is swung out to render it accessible for punching.
The folder is preferably formed of a flexible but stifl material such as fiber or cardboard which is sufficiently strong to withstand repeated handling. The two parts or leaves 3 and 4 of the folder may be of the same size and will bear upon them advertising matter and time tables printed, engraved or otherwise suitably impressed.
The ticket 5 may be of any suitable form such as is commonly used for commutation and trip tickets. Usually the number of the trips or dates are printed at one end or' along the edges.
To connect the ticket to the folder I provide an adhesive strip 6 formed for instance of gummed holland. The length of this strip should be substantially the same as the width of the ticket. The folder is preferably made somewhat wider than the ticket so that the edge of the ticket may be readily engaged with the thumb or'finger to raise it as shown in Figure 2 and thus facilitate the punching of the ticket. This is quite important as it must be possible for be issued with each ticket. USGI is assured daily reminder to his prosa plurality Application filed May 10, 1922. Serial No. 559,731.
with the advertising matter andthe time tables and issued through the ticket offices of the stations at which the tickets are issued. For convenience in handling the adhesive strips or tapes are preferably fastened to the folders and the folders constitute a time table with the strips attached. This makes it feasible for the ticket agents to handle the folders and attach the tickets when they are sold or to hand out the folder at the same time with the ticket. The folder constitutes a convenient means for protecting and carrying the ticket and also enables the traveler to readily locate the ticket and its folder in the pocket or among a number of papers.
This construction assures the holder of the ticket that he will always have the proper time table as a new time table will To the adverpective customer. This invention also may provide the railroad with its time tables at no expense whatsoever.
I claim:
1. Aholder for a transportation ticket having thereon indications corresponding to a plurality of trips between two stations, comprising a single sheet of stiff material. foldable along a fold line to form two leaves and having on one face a time table between said stations, other space on the sheet being available for advertising matter, and hinging means of thin material at one edge of one of said leaves for attachment to one edge of the ticket so thatthe latter will be enclosed by the folder for protection there by while leaving all faces of the leaves available for inspection of the matter appearing thereon.
2. A holder for a transportation ticket having thereon indications corresponding to of trips between two stations, comprising a single sheet of stiff material foldable along a fold line to form two leaves and having onone face a time table between said stations, other space on the sheet being available for advertising matter, and hinging means of thin material at one end of one of said leaves for attachment to one end of the ticket so that the latter may be folded into the holder for protection thereby while leaving all faces of the leaves available for inspection of the matter appearing thereon.
3. A holder for a transportation ticket having thereon indications corresponding to a plurality of trips between two stations, comprising a single sheet of stiff material foidable along a fold line to form two leaves and having on one face a time table between said stations, other space on the sheet being available for advertising matter, and hing-4 ing means of thin material at the top edge of one of said leaves for attachment to one end of the ticket so that the latter may be folded into the holder for protection thereby while leaving all faces of the leaves available for inspection of the matter appearing thereon.
4. A combination time table between two stations and holder for a transportation ticket having thereon indications of a plurality of trips between said stations, comprising a single sheet of stiff material foldable along a fold line to form two leaves and hinging means of thin material at one edge of one of said leaves for attachment to one edge of the ticket so that the latter will be enclosed by the folder for protection thereby while leaving all faces of the leaves available for inspection of the time table and advatisin matter appearing on the surface of the folder not occupied by the time table.
5. A combination time table between two stations, holder for a transportation ticket having thereon indic tions of a plurality of trips between said stations, and advertising device: comprising a folderof stiff sheet material foldabie along a fold line to form two leaves and having on one face a time table between said stations, other space on the folder being available for advertising matter, and hinging means of thin material at the top edge of one of said leaves for attachn'ient to one end of the ticket so that the latter may be folded into the holder for protection thereby while leaving all faces of the leaves available for inspection of the matter appearingthereon, the leaves o the holder being wider than the ticket to afford complete protection thereto and permit easy separation and unfolding of the ticket from the leaf to which it is hinged.
