STAMP STRIP.
APPLICATION FILED NOV. 9, 1908.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SARA L. W. COE, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
STAMP-STRIP.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Dec. 21, 1909.
Application filed November 9, 1908. Serial No. 461,817.
Be it known that I, SARA L. W. Core, of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stamp- Strips; and I do hereby declare the followon a feed wheel.
more than one stamp at a time.
ing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enablev others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in stamp strips, the object of the invention being to provide a stamp strip which can be manipulated in a stamp vending machine in such manner that the feeding mechanism of such machine can accurately feed the stamps, one at a time, and so that the danger of removing or withdrawing more than one stamp at a time shall be minimized.
-With this object in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction as hereinafter set forth.
The accompanying drawing illustrates an embodiment of my invention.
In a stamp strip for use in a stamp vend ing machine, it is a matter of considerable importance that the continuity of the strip shall be preserved and that those portions of the strip which are engaged by the propelling means for the purposeof feeding the strip forward should be very accurately spaced apart so that more or less than a single stamp cannot be projected through the discharge slot of the machine at each operation of the latter.
. It has been found that with stamp strips having lines of perforation between the stamps .as manufactured for the Government," such lines of perforations are not accurately spaced apart and are not therefore always in position to cooperate with pins Furthermore when the strip is perforated between the stamps, it often becomes partially severed and thus a purchaser might beenabled to withdraw When the stamp strip is thus severed at a point in rear of the discharge slot of the machine, the continuity of the strip might be so interruped as to become disengaged from the feed wheel.
In order to avoid the objections above outlined, I provide a stamp strip 1 with notches 2 in its edges at points intermediate the stamps of the strip, said notches being located equi-distant apart so that they will receive lugs or projections on a feed wheel over which the strip is passed.
Between each two stamps and in line with the notches in the respective ed es of the Strip, I provide a slit 3, the en s of said slit terminating short distances from the apexes of the V-shaped notches 2 in the side edges of the strip. The stamps are therefore united at the points i4 with suiiicient firmness to prevent accidental'severance but 0 n be detached readily when a stamp has been projected through the discharge outlet of the machine.
My improvements are also applicable with ticket strips in machines for vending tickets.
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is,
A stamp or ticket strip having transverse slits disposed at right angles to the side edges of the strip between the stamps or tickets, each of said slits terminating at its ends inwardly removed from the side edges of the strip, and said strip having notches in its side edges in line with and removed short distances from the respective ends of said transverse slits, said notches being adapted to receive lugs ona feed deviceifor advancing the strip predetermined distances and also to cooperate with said slits to in sure the proper severance of a stam or ticket from the strip, the portions o the paper between the ends of a slit and the adjacent notches serving to secure two stamps or tickets together equal distances at respective sides-of the longitudinal center of the strip.
In testimony whereof, I have signed th1s specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
SARA L. W. COE.
