7 Claims.

This invention relates to improvements in dispensable devices and it consists of the matters hereinafter described and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

One of the objects of the invention is to provide a device in the form of a piece of folded sheet material, such as paper, adapted to be arranged with others as a pack in a suitable dispensing apparatus and which devices may be mechanically dispensed. from said apparatus, one at a time without damage.

Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this kind which includes a piece of paper folded upon itself to form two sections, one of which overlaps at least a part of the other section to ydefine a pocket, bottomed by the fold line and which pocket is adapted to receive the finger or fingers of the dispensing apparatus, by which each device is discharged individually from a pack within the apparatus.

A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this kind made from a piece of folded paper and having lateral extensions forming pockets for engagement by the discharge fingers of the apparatus in which said device along with others are held as a pendently supported pack.

Still another object of the invention is to provide a device of this kind in the form of a piece of folded paper that requires but a simple die cutting and folding operation to produce the same and makes fast production easy and practical.

The above mentioned objects of the invention, as well as others, together with the many advantages thereof, will more fully appear as I proceed with my specification.

Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the manner of arranging a plurality of the devices as a pack for a pendent support in a suitable dispensing apparatus.

Fig. 3 is a View in front elevation of the pack appearing in Fig. 2 and illustrates more fully the position of certain ejector fingers with respect to parts of the frontmost device in the pack.

Fig. 4 is a view in elevation of one side of the blank from which the device is made.

Fig. 5 is a view in elevation of the other side of the blank appearing in Fig. 4.

Referring now in detail to that embodiment of the invention, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and especially to Figs. 4 and 5 thereof, the device is made from a rectangular piece of sheet material such as paper and having top, bottom and side edges 5--6 and 1-1 respectively. Preferably the sheet is longer from top to bottom than it is wide.

(Cl. 20G-57) Centrally at each side of the blank are lateral, rectangular extensions 8-8 and in the top margin of the blank closely adjacent the edge 5 is a plurality of openings 9 9. If desired, but not necessarily so, there may be slits I-lll connecting said openings with the edge 5. The purpose of said openings will appear later. i

The blank may be formed with a transverse fold line I I along which it is folded to provide a front or facing section l2 and a rear or backing section I3 for vthe device. This fold line is disposed below the transverse median line of the blank and consequently below the like line of the extensions so that the facing section overlaps so much of the backing section as to leave the top margin i4 of the backing section disposedabove the top edge of the facing section as best shown in Fig. 1.

When the blank is thus folded upon itself, this leaves a shorter extension portion l5 on the facing section and a longer extension portion i6 on the backing section so that a part l1 of the last mentioned portion is exposed and projects above the top edge of said extension portion I5. Thus said extension portions, in connection with the fold, provide pockets that are open at the top and outer ends and are closed or bottomed by the fold line.

On one side of the two sections of the blank may appear suitable data or information and the like. For instance, the front face of the backing section may contain thereon, a menu or the like I8 and the rear face of the facing section may contain thereon matter I9 pertaining to the manner of preparing the menu. The front face of the facing sheet maycontain another recipe 20 as for a dessert and may include a date 2| and the rear face of the backing sheet may be formed as an order blank 22 for inscribing thereon, certain articles required in preparing the menu before mentioned. As shown in Fig. 5, the matter on the front side of the facing section appears reversed in its order or upside down so that when the blank is folded, the matter on the front of the facing section appears in a manner for proper reading thereof.

The device as thus far described is more particularly intended for use in a pack in connection with a dispensing apparatus such as a clock in a home, of such design that at certain intervals, as for instance, daily, a device is dispensed for the use of the housewife.

The devices are intended to be arranged as a pack, 23, as shown in Fig. 2, with the openings 9 in all devices disposed in alignment to receive rods 24 which form a part of the dispensing apparatus and pendently support the pack in proper position,

The apparatus will, of course, be periodically actuated for engaging one device and discharging the same from the apparatus. As shown in Fig. 3, said means may constitute a pair of laterally spaced

25 and 25 so arranged at each side of the pack in the planes of the lateral extension portions I5 and I6 as to engage upon the exposed parts Il of the extension portions I6 of the backing section.

Said fingers periodically will havev a longitudinal reciprocating movement which is greater than the distance between the top edge of the eXtension portion I5 and the fold line II, the upper limits of said movement being such as to cause the ends of said fingers to engage upon the parts' I'I of the extension portions I6 as best appears inFig.3. In the downward movement of said` fingers, their extremities will slip under the edges of the extension portions I5, to enter the pockets as provided by the coacting extension portions I5 and I6 and will then engage the bottoms of said pockets as providedA by the fold line II. As said fingers further move downwardly, they will cause those parts of the `backing sheet I3 between the holes 9 and edge 5to tear out to release the frontmost device of the pack from said pack and discharge thesame out. through a suitable openingin the apparatus.

In the back stroke of the fingers 25 they will slide over the extension portions I5 of the now frontmost device in the pack, until they come to rest upon the extension portions ,Il ready for the next operation. It is, of course, to be understood that the apparatus will also include some means to move the vpack forward on kits supporting rods Zjas the pack becomes depleted through the dispensing of the devices therefrom.

It is apparent that the extension portions I5 andV I6 are disposed at the bottom of each device and are relatively short from top to bottom. This has its advantages in that the stroke of the dispensing fingers may be shortened accordingly so that a more simple and less costly actuating mechanism may be used therefor.

The device is simple in construction and may be produced with but a minimum waste of paper and by means of simple dies andfolding mechamsm.

While in describing the invention, I have referred in detail to the form and arrangement of the parts of the device, the same is to be considered only in the illustrative sense so that I do not wish to be limited thereto except as may be specifically set forth in theappended claims.

I claim as my invention:

1. A dispensable device of the kindv described comprising a piece of sheet material having a lateral extension along one side at a point between its ends folded alo-ng a transverse line passing through said extension to form two sections, one of which overlaps at least a part of the other section, with a part of the extension associated with one section overlapped upon a portion only of that part ofthe extension associated with the other section.

2. A dispensable device of the kind described comprising a piece of sheet material folded along a predetermined line to form a facing section and a backing section, the former of which overlaps the latter to expose the top margin of the same and which margin is formed to receive members for pendently supporting a plurality of said devices as a stack, each section having a lateral extension at the bottom, as provided by the fold line, the extension on one section having an edge substantially parallel with the fold line and spaced a lesser distance therefrom than a corresponding edge on the other extension, said extensions forming pockets bottomed by said fold line.

3. A dispensable device comprising a rectangular paper blank with a lateral extension at each side thereof at about the middle of said sides, said blank being folded transversely at a point to one side the transverse median line of said extensions to form front and rear sections, one of which overlaps a portion of the other section, the portion of the extension on the one section having an edge substantially parallel with the fold line but being spaced a distance from said fold line different than the corresponding edge of a portion of the extension on the other section.

4. A blank for a dispensing device of the kind described comprising a rectangular sheet of paper having top, bottom and side edges, there being a lateral extension at each side of the sheet at about the middle thereof, the top margin of said sheet having openings therein, said sheet being adapted to be folded along a line transversely of but spaced from its transverse median line.

5. A dispensable device of the kind described comprising a sheet of material folded along a predetermined line to form a facing section and a backing section, the former of which overlaps the latter to expose the top margin of the same and which margin is formed to receive means for pendently supporting a plurality of devices as a stack, one of said sections having a lateral extension at the bottom as provided by the fold line and which lateral extension overlaps a portion of the other section and coacts therewith in forming a pocket bottomed by the fold line, said extension having an edge spaced a lesser distance from the fold line than a corresponding edge on said overlapped portion of said other section.

6. A dispensable device of the kind described comprising a sheet of material folded along a predetermined line to form a facing section and a backing section, the former of which overlaps the latter to expose stantially parallel with the fold line and spaced a lesser distance therefrom than a corresponding edge on said overlapped portions of said backing section.

7. A dispensable device of the kind described embodying therein a rectangular piece of paper having a lateral extension along one side folded upon a transverse line passing through said extension to form a rear section and a front section which overlaps a part of said rear section to expose a margin thereof at the end opposite the fold line, said margin having atleast one opening that communicates with the edge of said margin, that part of the extension associated with the portion of said section.
