n GABMENT-HANvG-ER AND THE LIKE.
Specification of 'Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 5, 1912.
Application mea February-5,1912.- serial No. 675,431".
To all whom it may concern: y V
Be it known that I, SAMUEL B. DE YoNeH,
a citizen of the United States, and a resident` of the city of New Rochelle, in the county of Westchester and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Hangers and theLike, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to supporting defL vices for garments and the like, and particularly to such devices commonly known as coat hangers.
The invention consists in the improved device shown on the accompanying drawing and hereinafter described which drawing represents a view of one form of my device.
In carrying my invention into effect, I provide a quantity of suitable material and braid the same so as to form a plurality of ribs or stripes, a. At about one inch or other suitable distance from either extremity of said ribs or stripes, I unite two or more of the said ribs or stripes and thus form a middle portion b, as shown in the drawing, and produce a device with broad extremities c and c', each of which tapers toward and vjoins the center or middle portion o. The..` device thus constructed is usedpricipally as an attachment to a garment in the form of a loop, so that the same may be suspended from a hook or other suitable device; the
method of attachment being the sewing or otherwise afixing the extremities 0 and c', to the garment and leaving the center or middle piece b free.
The device described herein can readily be produced by and upon a form of braiding machine generally known in the textile trade; such machine having an attachment y consisting principally of a number of circular movable apertures arranged in the form of two concentric circles, the inner circle comprising exactly one half the number of apertures of which the outer circle is com-V prised'. The fabric passes through the outer aperture and is then taken up by and p' through the inner aperture and therebyl formed into the ribs and stripes described herein.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim-as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is as folllowsr" l. A device adapted to suspend a gar-4 ment, comprising a plurality of braids running longitudinally, two or more of said braids being united at a lsuitable distance Ifromeither extremity thereof and forming a ribbed intermediate portion thicker, narrower and stronger than the end portions thereof.
2. A deviceadapted to suspend a garment provided with ribs which are caused to taperV from the extremities thereof toward the center by ,uniting two or more of such ribs at a suitable distance from the extremities thereof and forming a ribbed intermediate portion thicker, narrower and stronger than the end portions thereof.
In witness whereof, I have signed the foregoing specification at New York city, this 2nd day of February, 1912.
lSAMUEL B. DE YoNeH.
