UNITED STATES? PATENTOFF oE.
LOUIS NETZNER, or NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR OFONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO BRADLEY, voonnnns & DAY MANUFACTURING COMPANY, LIM TED;
on SAME PLAoE.
IMPROVEMENT IN SUSPEND ER-S TRAPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 199,659, dated January 29, 1878; application filed December 14, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LoUIs NErzNER, of New York, in the county of New York, in the State of New York, have invented a new, useful, and important Improvement in Suspender Straps or Ends, fully shown and described in this specification.
Suspender straps or ends have been made from leather, web, braid, and cord, with a single button hole or loop at one end or at both ends, the button-hole being formed by cutting the leather or web, or by bending the braid or cord back upon itself and fastening it. Such straps have also been plaited from several threads or cords, a single button hole or loop being left at one end. Further, an extra button-hole piece has been applied to the middle part of a strap, to support the drawers by the front waistband-button. Further, two separate cordshave been doubled and their ends fastened by a clamp to a piece of web, the whole forming a suspender-button strap, with two long button-loops at the ends.
My invention, however, differs materially from all such contrivances in important and essential particulars, and does not conflict therewith.
The object of my invention is the manufacture of a strap for suspender-ends that will meet the demands of trade with respect to novelty, strength, durability, convenience, and appearance.
My improvement consists in a suspender strap or end having two or more button-loops at one end or at both ends, one above another; also, in a suspender strap or end crocheted or otherwise made in one piece from a single cord or yarn, and having one or more buttonloops at one end or at both ends; further, in a crocheted, braided, knitted, plaited, woven,
. or similarly-constructed suspender strap or end in one piece, and having one or more buttonloops at each end, or two or more button loops at one end.
Figure 1 is a View of a portion of the suspender-strap with two or more button-loops at one end, one above another. Fig. 2 is a view of the suspender-strap having two button-loops at each end. Fig. 3 is a viewof the same bent into form for connection to the body of a suspender. Fig. 4. is a view of the suspenderstrap having two button -loops at one end. Fig. 5 is a view of the suspender-strap applied to the body of a suspender. v
The suspender-strap may be made flat, oval, rounded on one side, or round; and it may be made of leather, web, braid, or other material, It may be made from a single cord or yarn of cotton, worsted, or silk, or more cords or threads may be used. It may be crocheted, knitted, braided, woven, plaited, or similarly made in one piece; and when so made, with two or more button-loops at each end, it may be cut into two parts for attachment to the body of the suspender, or to a device for that purpose, or it may be applied in one piece without division. The material for the suspender-strap may be in solid colors, or of different colors; orparticolored threads or cords or yarn may be employed, making the strap ornamental, as well as capable of matching a variety of webs.
To crochet the strap, take a single cord or yarn or thread, and crochet the body of the strap between the button-loops, beginning at one end. When the other end is reached, crochet the button-loop or button-loops thereto. Then crochet back to the first end, and crochet thereon a button-loop or button-loops also, ending at the point of commencing the strap. In like manner the strap can be commenced and ended at any place, as at the middle, and crocheted both ways to the ends, in-
cluding the button-loops; and'it can be crocheted with one or more button-loops at one end only.
Suspender-straps with two or more buttonloops are very convenient in case of the breaking of a button-loop, as the broken one can be out off neatly and another one used, thereby saving annoyance and expense. The different button-loops also aiford increased resistance to wear when. more than one loop is used on one button.
I claim I 1. A suspender strap or. end having two or more button-loops, one above another, at one end or at both ends, substantially as shown and described.
2. A suspender strap or end crocheted or otherwise made in one piece from a single cord or yarn, and having one or more buttonloops at one end or at both ends, substantially as shown and described.
3. A crocheted, braided, knitted, woven, plaited, or similarly-made suspcnder strap or end, in one piece, and having two or more button-loops at one end, substantially as shown and described.
4. A crocheted, braided," knitted, woven,
plaited, or similarly-made suspender strap or end, having two or more button-loops at each end, all made in one piece, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I hereunto set myhand in presence of two attesting witnesses this 6th day of December, 187 7 LOUIS NETZNER. Witnesses:
RICHARD H. McDoNNELL, Tnos. O. OAssrDY.
