Description

' To aZZ whom it rrtay,comern.- y l Be it known that LBERTHOLD L. RICH, a' l BER'rHoLD n- BICH, or Wasiiruerom Drsrmor encontrarme.
' Nnrnnncimnniv'r.
citizenV of the United Statua. residing at lvllr'ashington, in the DistrictLv of Columbia, have invented certain new and following is a specification.
This invention relates to eert-ain new and l useful improvements in nethengarments, and
of the garment an enlarged scale.
talns no rubber,
'particularly to i athletic and othenI short drawers, and it consists of a bifurcated-garment having permanently secured to" it by stitching, a tubular knitted tab of substan. vtial length, the upper and major portion 'of which is formed of a tube of loosely-knitted material having elasticity in the direction of its length, said lower end and of narrower and more closely knitted con!I struction, as fl will hereinafter describe and claim. I
In the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification and `in which simi-- lar reference characters indicate like parts in the several views ;-Fig`ure l represents a nethengarrnent having my improvement applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a view of a portion' showing .the attachment on In carrying out Aniy invention, to use thesame in connection with nethergarments of different lengths; in fact the attachment is applicable to garments lof various types and therefore is not limited to any particular style or length of garment, but is hast adapted to short'drawers.
lt is well known that there aremany objections to the use of the ordinary hose sup porter in connection "with nether-garments, and that where such supporters employ elastic webbing, cords and the like, the elasticity of 'the rubber used :s quickly destroyed by the ilardeningor other deterioration of the rubber due largely to holding the rubber under tension when the device is in use.
An object of the present construction is to provide a nether-garment with a permanently attached tab of substantial length and one which is formed of knitted material possessing inherent elasticity and which 'conand which may be washed when the garment is sent to the laundry "without danger of the' flexibility or elasticity Specification of LettersPatent. l n vljtented application-nieu March' a, 1912. serial not densas.
"'ing therefrom i ner. useful lm 'provenientsjin Nethergarrnents, of-which the l ,B, this tab beingofsubst-antial haying 4its lower .end
tube being contracted at the'.` merging linto a strap portion lI propose ofl the i tab. being destroyed or materially essened, said tab having means for supportnether-garment Vof any ofthe well known designs, and which may represent any article of apparel which would require or make advisable .the useof means fof supporting from said garment the hose of a wearer,
Near the lower end of the leg portion of the garment is permanently fastened a tab, length and i provided with any well knownform of-'clasp -or device, C, adapted to engage and supporta hose, said tab havlng also some appropriate buckle or like device, D, for ad}usting the length of the lower folded portion of the ta The tab has its upper end securely stitched to a piece of fabric, E, which in turni is stitched permanently to the leg portion of the garment. The tab is formed upper portion being so loosely knit-ted as to give to the tab suiiicient elasticityin the direction of its 'length to enable yit to yield under any strain to which it may be put; this elasticityA is inherent, in the material oet. 29,1912.
a -hosein the ordinary man- In the said drawing, A, represents a..
of knitted material, the
itself and is not the result of incorporating into the tab any rubber or additional ele` ment possessing elasticity. In other words I depend purely upon the elasticity inherent 'to knitting the tab loosely in tubular form forI have found that when the tab is so constructed there is ample elasticity-provided fgr the purpose of lsuitably supporting the hose. The garment with the permanently attached tab may be laundried any number of times without destroying the elasticity of the tab and there are no portions of the tab i which will deteriorate because ofrepeated I washing.
The tab, as before stated, is knitted in tubular form, and the lower portion of the tab is constructed or made narrower to form a strap portion of a-closely knitted and substantially inelastic character. This strap portion7 F, passes over a cross-bar of the buckle, D,fand is then folded and returned upon itself `and over the, cross-bar ofthe in the well' known manner, whereby the buckle may be adjusted tol increase or debuckle and has its end secured by stitching,
` strapdp p folde portion of the s tralF, is. secured the crease the length "of the. loo ed or folded ortlo'n of the tab. In tv e bight of the ordinary vclasp or lo well known form of; hose.
A garment ofthe character described, can bermanufactured with but little additional cost and it combines Permanently with the garment, asuitable means for lsu porti-ng hose and which'means is producl -With a Or- S'Ome other evice for yengaging a total absence of rubber or elastic commonly used in'supporters. As the tab may be laun dried with the garment itself itismanifest that itis more Sanitary than-'those supporters-.which are separate from the arment and which are of such a character t 'at they can not be'successfully laundried 'and which supporters almost invariably use elastic which deteriorates and'harden and loses its elasticity often after but'slight use.,A
Having thus deseribedmyinvention *what*A I claim as new and desire to secure by- Let-- ters l-atent is AS an article of manufacture, a netherstantial length permanenti -attached to it, said tab being composed o tubular knitted fabric having one portion loosely knitted to give inherent elasticity. to the vtab in the direction of its length, and having a second portion of reduced width andclosely lknit- .ted and folded upon itself, a hosey supportin member carried by the folded 'closely- .kmtted portion'oflthe tab, and a member also carried by the closely-knitted portion of vthe tab for adjusting the length of tht folded portion of the same. v
In testimon whereof I aflix my signature in presence o Y* two Witnesses.
