To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EPHRAIM M. BISHOP, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kingston, in the county of Ulster and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in F oot-Rests, of which the following is a specification.
An object of the invention is to provide a foot rest that can be adjusted to any convenient supporting posit-ion.
The invention embodies, among other features, a foot rest particularly adapted for use in connection with stoves or radiators, the foot rest being adjust-ably supported on the stove or radiator in a manner that will permit of readily removing the device from the object by which it is supported.
In the further disclosure of the invention reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings constituting a partof this specification, in which similar characters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the views, and inwhich:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device, a portion of a radiator being shown in dotted lines to denote the manner of 111ounting the device thereof; Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view taken through the shelf; and Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse sectional view taken through the shelf.
Referring more particularly to the views, I employ a shelf 10, preferably having one side thereof smooth and the other side padded and having formed therewith suitable pins 11, extended from the ends of the shelf 10, hangers 12 being arranged for pivotal connection with the pins 11 and ter minating at their upper ends in hooks 13 for connection with a horizontal rod 14 of a radiator 15, as shown in Fig. 1.
The medial portion of the shelf 10 is reduced and mounted to encircle the reduced portion is a collar 16 provided with a depending head 17 having an opening 18 therein and through which is slidably passed an adjusting bar 19 provided with a series of apertures 20 adapted to receive therethrough the inner end of a pin 21 slidably mounted on the head 17 to extend across the opening 18 therein, the said pin 21 having connection with a contractile helical spring 22, an end of which is connected to the head 17 to normally retain the inner end of the pin 21 in engagement with the adjusting bar 19. An end 23 of the adjusting bar is preferably V-shaped to conform to the shape of one of the sections 24 of the radiator 15.
It will now be seen that the shelf 10, through the medium of the hangers 12, having connection with the rod 14, can be swung toward or away from the radiator. 15 and held in rigid position relatively to the radiator by the adjusting bar 19, the spring-engaged .pin 21 being adapted to normally retain the adjusting bar in rigid and locked position on the head 17 of the collar 16. By mounting the collar 16 loosely on the shelf 10 and having the hangers 12 in pivotal connection with the shelf, the shelf can be readily rotated to present either the smooth or padded side and it will be further seen that in the use of a device of the character described, the same can be readily attached to or. removed from con nection with the radiator or other object, and can be cheaply manufactured to produce an efficient and durable foot rest.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. In a device of the class described, the combination with a shelf, of means for attaching the same to a supporting member, a collar encircling the said shelf and freely movable thereon, and an adjusting bar having connection with the said collar for adjusting the shelf relatively to the supporting member.
2. In a device of the class described, the combination with a plurality of hangers having hooks formed in the upper ends thereof of a shelf, pins extended from the shelf and having pivotal connection with the said hangers, a collar mounted to loosely encircle the reduced portion of the shelf and provided with an opening, an apertured adjusting bar mounted to slide on the said collar and passing through the opening therein, and a spring-actuated pin mounted on the collar to normally pass through one of the openings in the said adjusting bar and lock the adjusting bar to the said collar.
