UNITED STATES FREDERICK A. TYLER,
PATENT OEROME, NEW YORK.
CRIB.
SPECJIFIQATIQNformingpart of Letters, Patent No. 32 8,l5'7,;dated Qotober13g1885. Application filed July 1, 1885. Serial No. 170,369. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, F.-A. TYLER, a citizen of the United-States, residing at Rome, in the county of Oneida and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cribs, of which the following is a specification, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to cribs adapted to be detachably secured to the side rail of a bed, the object being to provide the crib with an improved construction of rocker attachment, whereby the crib may be rocked by a person occupying the bed without arising from the same, and to provide an improved construction of clamping-bracket, whereby the crib may be removably secured to the side rail of the bed.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the improved construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view showing myimproved crib attached toa bedstead. Fig. 2 isa bottom view of the crib detached. Fig. 3 is an end elevation showing the rockers and the manner of attaching the same. Fig. 4 is a longitudinal vertical section, and Fig. 5 is a cross-section on the line yy of Fig. 2.
In the accompanying drawings, in which likeletters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures, A represents the crib, which consists of the bottom B, having the side 0 and ends D, said side and ends comprising posts secured in the bottom B and connected at their upper ends by rails, as shown. Upon the under side of the bottom B, a short distance from the ends thereof, are provided depending angular plates at, the vertical arms of each plate having an opening for the pivot-pin of the cradlel F represents the rockers, which have convex or curved upper faces on which the crib rests, said rockers being connected by a bar, a. Passing through the openings in the angular plates a are headed pins b, which serve to pivotally connect the rockers with said plates. It will thus be seen that the crib may be rocked upon the curved or convex faces of the rockers.
Secured to the opposite ends of the rockers plates a to which the rockers Wi l arepivoted preventing the longitudinal movement or shifting of the crib.
It will be noticed that one side of the crib is left open, said sidebeing that which is nearest the bed when the crib is adjusted on the side rail, so that access may be readily had to.
thecrib.
Secured to the under sides of the rockers near the inner ends thereof are plates G, having elongated slots 6 and down-turned outer ends, f.
H represents clamping-brackets, which are provided on their upper sides at the inner ends thereof with T- shaped lugs g, which slide in the slots of the ing-brackets are formed on their inner sides with notches so that they may fit over the side rail of a bed having a molding, the side rail being clamped between the down-turned ends, f, and the sliding clamping-brackets H. The clamping-brackets H are provided with elongated slots h, in which work set-screws 1',
plates G. These clamp having their ends turning in openings in the rockers. It will be seen that by loosening the set-screws the clamping brackets may be moved inwardly or outwardly to allow the crib to be attached to or detached from the side rail of abed.
Washers I are between the heads brackets.
It will be seen that in the day-time the crib may, if desired, be readily detached from the side rail of the bed and stowed away, and when it is desired to use the same that it may be readily and quickly adjusted in place.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- 1. The combination, with a bed, of rockers placed upon the set-screws of the same and the sliding detachably secured thereto and a crib mounted on said rockers, as set forth.
2. The combination, with the crib and rockers, of the slotted plates having downturned ends, and the sliding clamping-brackets having T shaped lugs, said clamping-brackets having elongated slots and set-screws working there in, as set forth.
3. The combination, with a bed, of rockers detachably connected to said bed, a cradlebody mounted on said rockers, and flexible limiting bands or straps connecting opposite sides of the rockers with opposite sides of the crib-bottom, as set forth.
4. The combination, with a bed, of rockers detachably connected thereto, adjustable clamping-plates secured to said rockers and engaging the bed-rail, and a cradle-body mounted on said rockers and having limited straps, as set forth.
5. The combination, with a bed, of supporting-rockers having adjustable clampingplates to detachably connect the same to the bed-rail, a cradle-body mounted on said rockers and having an open side, angular plates depending from said crad1e-body,and pivotpins connecting said body and rockers together, as set forth.
6. The combination, with a bed, of rockers detachably connected thereto, an angle-plate secured to each of said rockers, an adjustable clamping-bracket having a slotted arm, a set-screw passing through said arm of the bracket, a cradle-body mounted on said rockers and pivotally connected thereto, and flexible limiting bands or straps secured at opposite ends to opposite sides of the rockers and cradle-bottom, as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
FREDERICK A. TYLER.
