HAMILTON, OHIO, A COPARTNERSHIP.

Application filed March 27, 1911. Serial No. 617,055.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT KRAUTH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hamilton, in the county of Butler and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Autographic Registers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in autographic registers, and primarily to the means for securin and supporting a removable cover plate or the casing.
The object of my invention is to provide a removable cover plate for the casing of the register, with means for detachably supporting the same between the side walls of the casing, andmeans comprising a hinged door adapted to engage with said cover plate forlocking the same in position when the door is closed.
The features of the invention are more fully set forth in the description of the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a central vertical section through the forward portion of the register, illustrating the features of my invention. Fig. 2 is a top plan view. thereof showing the door in open position.
The type of register to which my improvement isapplied is known to the trade as -a full record autographic register, and of that class shown in Patent No. 824,185, issued to me June 26, 1906, for im rovement in autographic registers. It 15 ohvious, however, that my improvement can be applied to various other types of reg- .isters, in which such removable cover plate is desirable.
1, 2, represent the side frames of the register casing, 3 a door hinged to said side frames, providing a closure for one end of the register casing.
-- 4 represents a latch member fixed to the rod 5. The rod 5 is journaled within the ears 6, projecting from the door 3, and 7 'represents a coil spring engaging with. the door'and rod for exerting pressure inone direction, enabling the latch 4 to automatically engage with a catch 8, formed in the side of the casing 1, for locking the door in its closed position, a release is effected by rocking the rod 5 by means of the key 9.
Specification of Letters Patent. I Patented Qet. 22,1912,
10 represents a cover plate to provide a ,closure for the top of the register casing, between the feeding rolls 11, 12, and door 3.
14 represent bracket plates secured upon each of the side frames, forming afisets, ,and serving as supports for the cover plate 10. The plates 13 are each provided with a lip 16 extended toward the plates 1% to engage with and overlap one end of the cover plate, to prevent vertical displacement of the cover plate at such end. The door 3 is provided with a flange 15, adapted i.
to overlap the opposite edge of the'plate 10 when the door is closed, thereby securely locking said cover plate 10 against removal, but permitting ready removal of the plate 10 when the door 3 is open, by raising the endv engaging with the bracket 14. The plate may be of metal or glass, and by being removable, afiords ready access to the interior of the register. i
It is. obvious,.that the bracket plates 13 and 14 could be formed integral with the side plates, but the essential features of the invention relate to a removable cover plate having a socketed connection with the register casing at one end thereof, with the opposite end adapted to be engaged by a door, and by the offset engagement at such door end to hold the cover plate against lateral displacement when the door is open.
Having described my invention, I cl aim:
In an autographic register, a casing, comprising two side frames, having offsets on the interior thereof, a removable cover plate seated within said offsets and between said side frames and thereby maintained against maintain the same against vertical displace ment.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my-hand.
ALBERT KRAUTH.
