PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM ANDLIER, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
DOOR CONSTRUCTION.
Application filed April 2, 1923.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, lVILLIAM ANDLER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door Constructions, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in door constructions and has for its object the provision of means for preventing warping of doors or straightening the doors after such warping has occurred.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which,
Fig. l is a face view of adoor construction embodying the invention;
Fig. 2, an end View of the same;
Fig. 3, a detail View shown partially in section, of an attachment employed in the construction Fig. l, a view similar to Fig. 1, but showing a modified form of construction; and
Fig. 5, an enlarged section taken on line 5-4) of Fig. 4E.
The form of construction illustrated in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 comprises an ordinary door having a truss construction attached there- .0 adjacent the free or swinging edge thereof. This truss construction comprises threaded rods 6 and 7, the rod 6 being threaded in a socket 9 on a bracket 10 secured to the upper edge of the door and the rod 7 being threaded in a socket 11 on a bracket 12, projecting outwardly from the central portion of the door. The rods 6 and 7 are connected by a turn buckle 8. Similar brackets 10 and 12 are also secured to the lower portion of the door and connected by threaded rods 13 and a turn buckle 8. A handle yoke 14 is secured to the brackets 12 in position to span or pass around the door knob 15.
By this arrangement a reinforcing truss Serial No. 629,304.
is provided on the side of the door which is expansible or contra-ctable to exert a thrust or pull on the door to straighten the same in case the door has become warped as frequently happens.
In the form of construction illustrated in F i gs. a and 5 a door is illustrated equipped with av handle 16 in addition to the usual knob 15 and the connecting yoke 14- of the truss construction is omitted. Otherwise the construction is to all intents and purposes indentical with that already described. lVlrile I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. The combination with a door, of threaded socket members having means for attachment to the flat upper and lower portions thereof adjacent the free edge of the door; brackets secured to the central portion of the door adjacent the free edge thereof and provided with threaded sockets aligned with said first mentioned sockets in a plane at an angle to the plane of the door; rods threaded in said sockets, and turn buckles connecting said rods, substantially as described.
2. The combination with a. door, of threaded socket members having means for attachment to the flat upper and lower portions thereof adjacent the free edge of the door; brackets secured to the central portion of the door and provided with threaded sockets aligned with said first mentioned sockets in a plane at an angle to the plane of the door; rods threaded in said sockets; turn buckles connecting said rods; and means connecting said central bracket-s, substantially as described.
The combination. with a door, of threaded socket member's secured to the upper brackets and arranged to pass around the and lower portions thereof, adjacent the knob of the door, substantially as described. 10 free edge of the door; brackets secured to In testimony whereof I have signed my the central portion of the door and provided name to this specification in the presence of with threaded socket-saligned with said a subscribing Witness.
first mentioned sockets; rods threaded in lVILLIAM ANDLER.
said sockets; turn buckles connecting said lVitness:
rods; and a handle yoke secured to said JOSHUA R. H. Po'r'rs.
