PLOW.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 15,1912.
Application filed June 24, 1910, Serial No. 568,712.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, Srcrnno PETERSON, a citizenof the United States, residing at Lost Springs, in the county of Marion and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plows, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to plows, and particularly to a. form of construction therefor in which a share consisting of two detachable sections, is employed.
The object of the invention is to provide a form .of plow share, consisting of two separate scctions, one of which is provided 7 with the usual cutting edge and an integral point, whereby the front section which carries the said cutting edge andpoint may be detachedfrom therear section so, that it may besh'arpened, or otherwise repaired, or
in order to-replaceth' front section With a new section.
According to the present1nvent1on,'the
two sections of the plow share are each pro-' vided with a landside portion, the-said portions being adapted to be placed in alinement' and locked'together by an improved form of fastening means, and further means are provided for loc-klng the two sections in such a manner as to prevent the sliding movement of one sect-ion theother. I 4 s F 0111a, full understanding of the present invention, reference is to he had to the following description and the accompanying drawings,in which Figure 1 is a bottom plan view of a plow share constructed of two (detachable sections according to the present invention, certain with reference to of the parts being shown in section; Fig. 2-
is a sectionalwviem taken on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a fragmentary elevation looking toward thermostat of the plow formed beveled, as will be seen particularly the socket 15'.
on reference to Figs. 2,and 3, and this beveled edge engages in a longitudinal groove 13 which is formed in the rear edge of the front section 12. It is contemplated that the rear section 10 of the share will have the usual moldboard secured thereto. The front section 12 carries an integral point, which is the front projection on the'landside edge of the cutting edge.
On the under side of the rear section 10 of the share, and adjacent to the front edge thereof, a pair of sockets 15 and 15 are provided, the-socket 15 being formedwith outwardly projecting locking extensions 16, the rear portions 17 of which are preferably integrally, or otherwise formed, with the adjacent member 15. On the under side of the front portion 12 of the share, at the rear edge of the latter, and in positions opposite to the positions occupied by the sockets l5 and 15,are disposed two socket members 18- and 18. The locking. extensions 16. be
fore referred to are made of such a length that they will engage opposite sides of the socket member18 when the two sections 10 and 12 are mounted in their proper relative positions so that the socket 1 8 is opposite The plow share formed in two' sections ac cording to the present inventiom-is provided with-the usual landside, the same consisting of the section 21, which may be formed integrally with the rear section 10-0f the share,
and the section 24, which may be formed integrally with the front section-12 of the share. The portion 21 of the landside is formed near its forward portion with a groove 22 in its outer side, this groove beingadapted to receive a tongue 23 which corresponds in shape to the groove, and is formed integrally with the landside portion 24 of the front section 12 and projects'rearwardly therefrom. A screw 25 passes through the landside portion 21 and through the tongue 23, so as to securely hold the tongue in the groove, this being apparent vfrom Figs. '1 and 3.
Headed screws 26 pass through the sockets 15 and 15 and are adapted to engage in threaded openings in the socketimembers 18- and-18, disposed opposite to the sockets 15,
and 15', whereby the sections 10 and 1.2 of the share may be oppositelyconnected to gether. The engaging sockets 15 and 18, audio and 18, are designed to prevent any oppositevsliding movement of the from =1,
tion 12 along the beveled edge 11 ofthe rearv pairing purposes.
Having thus described the invention, what 1s claimed as new 1s:
1. In a plow, 1n comblnatlon, a share consisting of two detachable sect-ions, the front edge portion of the rear section of the share being beveled said section being provided with a landside portion, the front section having a cutting edge and being formed with a landside portion adapted to be placed in alinelnent with the landside portion of i the said rear section, said front section be- 'landside portion of said ing provided on its side opposite to the cutting edge with a groove adapted to'receive the beveled edge of sai i rear section, the
,fr ont section of the share being provided with a tongue and the land side portion of the rear section of the share being provided with a groove in its .side adapted to receive said tongue, means I for fastenin'g said tongue in the groove, a socket arranged on the under side of the rear section of the share adjacent the beveled edge thereof, a socket arranged ,on the under side of the front section of the share adjacent the rear grooved edge thereof, said two sockets being adapted to contact with each other, fastening means passing through both of said sockets, and extensions formed on said first named socket and extending-beyond the frontedge of the rear section of said share so as to engage the sides of said Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Ifaten'ts:
second socket andithe lower side of the front sectlon of the share. 2. In a plow, zin: combination,a share consisting of two detachable sections, the front ing provided on its side opposite to the cutting edge'with a groove adapted to receive the beveled edge of said rear section, the
.landside portion of said front section of the share being provided with a tongue and the landside portion of said rear section of the sh'are being provided with a groove in its side adapted to receive said tongue, a bolt passing through the wall of the land-side portion of said rear section and through said tongue adapted to fasten the latter in the groove, a pair of sockets arranged on the under'si'de of said rear section of the share at the beveled edge thereof, a pair of sockets arranged on the underside'of said front section of the share at the rear grooved edge thereof and adapted to connect respectively with said first named socketsfa screw pass-' 1 ing through each pair of sockets and adapted to fasten the same together, and a pair of extensions formed on one of said sockets,
one to each side thereof,- said extensions bei ing adaptedto-engage with the correspond.
ing socket on the front section of said share and to also engage the under side of said front section.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
