Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EUGENE M. FARR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oradell, in the county of Bergen and State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Skirt-Measurers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a skirt measurer and aims to provide a device of this character which is very simple in construction and one which can be easily manufactured and placed upon the market at a very low cost.

Heretofore a great difficulty has existed in connection with the measuring of skirts because of the fact that the hem which is taken in the bottom is not always suflicient to allow the skirt to hang evenly, thereby making the lower edge very uneven and giving the same an obnoxious appearance.

My object is to overcome theabove mentioned difliculty and devise a device wherein the body portion can be secured about the persons waist and a tape measure allowed to swing downwardly and slide thereon, whereby the exact length of different points of the skirt can be readily ascertained.

With the above and other objects in view my invention consists in such details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.

In describing my invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of my invention. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary view thereof. Fig. 3 is a detail view. Fig. 4 is another detail.

In the accompanying drawings wherein is illustrated the preferred form of my invention the numeral 1 desi ates the body portion thereof, which has 1ts upper end turned in as shown at 2 for the purpose of reinforcement, while the lower end is bent upwardly as shown at 3, downwardly as shown at 4: and secured in place by means illustrated by the numeral 5. By this arrangement it is obvious that a continuous flap 6 is formed about the body portion, the said flap hereinafter serving as a guide way. A strip of material is now provided which is bent as shown and adapted to be secured in place by means designated by the numeral 7 the strip being designated by the numeral 8. The strip 8 is disposed above the flap 6 and adapted to lie parallel therewith and a button 9 of the ordinary collar type is adapted to slide beneath the flap and strip, the shank 10 and head 11 projecting therethrough and engaging an eyelet 12. Suitable fastening means may be provided upon the body portion for fastening about the persons waist. However, as this forms no part of my invention it has not been illustrated. The eyelet 12 is secured to a sleeve 13, which sleeve is bent about the upper end of an ordinary tape measure 14.

The operation of my invention may be as follows :The body portion is secured about the persons waist in any desired manner and it will be apparent that the button is free to move within the guide way provided therefor, whereby different lengths of the skirt can be readily ascertained upon the tape measure 14:. It is also apparent that when the device is not in use that it can be rolled up into a compact form and placed entirely out of the way, or else carried in a pocketbook.

From the foregoing it is thought that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be appreciated.

I desire it to be understood that I may i make slight changes in the construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts provided such changes fall within the scope of the subjoined claims.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. In a skirt measurer, a body portion having a portion thereof bent to form a continuous flap, a strip secured upon said body portion and adapted to lie parallel with said flap, a button slidably mounted between said strip and said flap, and a tape measure supported by said button, for the purpose described.

2. In a device of the character described, a skirt measurer comprising a body portion, a portion of said body portion being bent to form a continuous flap, a strip of material secured upon said body portion and adapted to lie parallel with said flap, a button slidably mounted between said fiap and said strip, an eyelet supported by said button, a

tape measure and means connecting said tape measure and said eyelet, for the purpose described.

3. In a skirt measurer, a body portion having its lower edge bent upwardly to form a continuous flap, a strip of material secured upon said body portion and adapted to lie parallel with said flap, a button slidably mounted between said flap and said strip, an eyelet supported by said button, a sleeve having connection with said eyelet, a tape measure, said sleeve adapted to engage said tape measure, for the purpose described.

4. In a device of the character described, a skirt measurer comprising a body portion adapted to be secured about a persons waist, the lower edge of said body portion adapted to be bent forwardly thereon and form a continuous flap, a strip ofmaterial independent of said body portion and adapted to be secured thereon and lie parallel with said flap, a button slidably mounted between said flap and saidstrip, an eyelet supported by said button, a sleeve supported by said eyelet, and a tape measure supported by said sleeve, for the purpose described. 7
