To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, -PHIL1P LEVINE, a citizen of the UnitedStates, and a resident of V the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of-Kings and State of New York, have invented a new'and' Improved Holder for v Pens, Pencils, or the like, of which the following isa full, "clear, and exact descriptioni This invention has relation to holders for pens, pencils or the like and has particular reference to a device of this characterwhich is designed for attachment to the. pocket of a garment or any 'otherjarticle'where the same may beplace'd forreceiving and re? taining a pen, pencil or; other implement of this nature." p f I One of the principal objectsof the present invention is to provide a holder through which the pen, pencil or other implement is inserted and retained, which is so constructed as to, facilitate the initial insertion" of the implement into the embracing portion of the same.
As afurthen object the invention aims to provide a'lio'lde'r o'f'the character described which is extremely simple in its construction, inexpensive to manufacture and which is thoroughly reliable and highly eflicient in its purpose.
With the above recited and other objects in view, the invention resides in the novel construction set forth in the following specification, particularly pointed out in the ap-. pended claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, it being understood that the right is reserved to embodiments other than those actually illustrated herein to the full extent indicated by the general meaning of the terms in which the claims are expressed.
In the drawing-+ Figure 1 is a fragmentary view of a portion of a garment and pocket, with the latter broken away and illustrating the holder in applied position.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the holder alone.
Fig. 3 is a face view of a holder element associated with a label.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a holder associated with a watch pocket.
Fig. 5 is a vertical sectional view therethrough taken approximately on the line 5-5 of Fig. 4.
Referring to the drawing by characters of reference and more particularly to 1 and; 2, the holder consists ofrelative'ly wide and narrow strips and 11 which are preferably of elastic material and are stitched together at their opposite extremi ties as at 12. The strip 11 is further stitched vertically across its width by lines of stitching 13 which. define a plurality of pencil or pen embracing loops 1 1'. From one of the innermost "lines of stitching 13an inclined line ofstit'ching 15'extends from the upper edge of the strip 11 todefine between said inclined line of stitching. 15 'andthenext adjacentline of ,stitching13 arr-implement embracing loop 16 which produces "at' the upper end an enlarged entrance mouth '17 to facilitate theinsertion ofthe pen, pencil or other implement through saidloop'f In practice "the holder is secured within the mouth of the garment pocket 18 by a line of stltching 19 which extends along and adjacent the upper edge of the s'trip'lO and along. and. adjacent the end ges of "said Strip 10 nd strip; 11-.
the modified 1 form of theinvention il- 'lustratedin Fig.8 a label 10 isused'in lieu labels and holders may be manufactured in end lines of stitching 23.. The'strip 21'is-I 7 further secured by vertical longitudinal;
spaced lines of stitching 24 to the strip 20 to define a plurality of pen, pencilor other implement embracing loops .25. One of the innermost linesof stitching 24 has extending therefrom inwardly at an angle and from the upper edge of the strip 21 a line of stitching 26 which defines a central loop 27 having an enlarged entrance mouth .28.
A watch pocket consisting of inner and out-.
er pieces of material 29 and 30 is attached saia to the holder by securing the upp'er edge 31 of the inner piece of material 29 to the lower edge of the strip 21 While the upper edge 32 of the outer piece 'o'fr'nate'rial is Se: cured to the lower edge of the strip22. EX-
tending inwardly at an angle from the upper edge of the strip 22 adjacent the opposite side edges thereof, inclinedlinesof stitching 33 are provided which terminate above the lower edge of the strip 221 and approximately at the lower edgeiof thestriP Watch or other valuable articles, which is" formed wi an elastic or self-closingenltrance mouth i 1 n the forms illustrated in Figs. 1 :and'.2
