JOSEPH BERCHA, OF BEATRICE, NEBRASKA.
COMB-CLEANING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
llatented Get. 8, 1912.
Application filed February 14, 1911. Serial No. 608,545.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Josln-n BERGIIA, a citizen of the United States, residing at Beatrice, in the county of Gage and State of Nebrasln have invented new and use't'ul Improvements in Comb- Cleaning Devices, of which the :t'ollowing is a specil'icatimi.
Thls invention relates to comb cleaners and more particularly to that type ojt device which is adapted to el'lectively clean the teeth of hair combs.
One of the main objects of the invention is the provision of a device of this character having a. plurality of taut wires which are mounted upon the fame and crossed in its center so as to form converging cleaning elements which grip the sides of the teeth and when the comb is removed the dirtis scraped otl' the teeth.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a simple, cheaply constructed and etlic'ient frame for supporting crossed wires and carrying an adjusting head by which the tension of the wires may be regulated.
Further objects of the invention will appear as the following specific description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this a pplication, and in which Figure l is a perspective view. Fig. 2 is a. longitudinal section. Fig. 3 an enlarged diagrammatic perspective showing the arrangement of the wires. Fig. t is an enlarged detail perspective view of a portion of one of the wires.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 represents a frame which cinnpriscs a single piece of heavy iron or steel wire having its separate legs 2 and 3 arranget l in parallel relation and upturned at one end, as at 4, to provide head plate attaching legs The opposite ends of the legs are connected together by the converging members 3 which are arranged at, right angles to the legs 2 and 3 and which terminate in an eye 7 for a purpose to be hereinafter described. ltflounted upon the 5 and rigidly held in engagement therewith by means of a flange 8 a head plate 9 centrally aper' tured. as at .10, to receive the handle attaching screw 11 by which the handle ll is con nected to the frame.
Slidably mounted upon the legs 2 and 0 adjacent the opposite end from the head 5) is a sliding head l which is right angular in outline and has an aperture it formed in its vertical portion which is adapted to permit the passage of an adjusting screw 15 which also is extended through the eye 7 and is 'n'ovided, on its outer end, with a thumb nut '16.
lG-ach of the heads 9 and 13 is provided on its upper edge with a series (it outwardly inclined teeth or projections 17 over which is looped the cleaning wire 18. This cleaning wire preferably composed of a plurality ol twisted strands and in looping the wire trom one head to the other it is crossed, as shown at- 19, so as to provide constricted passages 20, so that when the teeth oil. the comb to be cleaned are pressed into engagement with the wire near one end and are drawn to aid the opposite end into the constricted passages, the wires will grip the teeth of the comb and, when the comb is drawn out at right angles to the wires, the wires will ell'ectively strip all dirttl1crctrom. 'lhc comb may be then removed. and started in at the opposite end and Forced toward the end o'l initial starting when the opposite side of the teeth will be cleaned.
llaving thus described the invention what I claim as new is:-
A device of the class described comprising a pair of parallel legs having upturned ends, a stationary head secured to said ends. the opposite ends of the legs being connected together. a loop in said connection. a second head slidably mounted on said legs, outwardly extending projiwtions on said heads, a flexible wire looped back and forth between the proicctions, a bolt carried by the movable head and passed through the loop. a knurled adjusting out on the bolt bearing against the loop and a handle rigidly seeurmjl to the stationary head.
in testimony wlu-rcot T atlix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH BERGHA.
