MICHAEL FLYNN, OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA.
THRESI-IER-CONCAVE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 8,1912.
Application filed August 4, 1911. Serial No. 642,268.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MICHAEL FLYNN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and useful Thresher-Concave, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to thresher concaves and particularly to thresher concaves having rotatable sections or bars journaled in the bearers as shown in my former Patents Nos. 896,097 and 952,795.
The primary object of this invention is to provide means for locking the rotatable bars against movement within the bearers or what might be called an inside look, thus dispensing with the necessity of protuberances outside of the bearers for locking the rotatable bars or sections. d
To this end the invention is embodied in the novel construction, arrangement and combination of parts as hereinafter described and as shown in the accompanying drawings, in which similar reference characters indicate similar parts, and in which,-
Figure 1 is a perspective of the thresher concave. Fig. 2 is an elevation of one of the bearers. Fig. 3 is an elevation of the other bearer showing the locking pin engaged therein and showing in dotted lines the rotatable section or bar.
Referring specifically to the drawings, there is designated at 5 the usual bearers having the curved grooves 6 on the inner faces thereof. Each bearer 5 has a block 13 journaled in a hole 10 therein which lies in the groove 6 and between the respective bl0cks'13 is mounted a rotatable bar or secof. Thus when the bar 7 is turned with one face up the concave has a smooth surface and when the other surface is turned up the concave has a toothed surface as may be desired. Each bearer 5 has a pair of lugs 12 and 12 spaced to the sides of the path of rotation of the bar 7 and at the lower edge thereof, which lugs 12 and 12 have the respective upstanding lips 9 and 9. A stop 11 is arranged behind the lip 9 and in alinement.with the notches formed by the lips 9 and 9. Flat pins 8 are insertible between the respective notches formed by lips 9 and x 9 and lie over the corresponding face of the bar and in the path of movement thereof to lock the same in position, and by withdrawing the said pins the rotatable bars are free to be moved or reversed. It will therefore be seen that the rotatable bar is in this manner effectively locked from within the bearers and that the construction is simple and inexpensive. It is understood, however, that this invention is susceptible of alterations in its details within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What is claimed as new is 1. In a thresher concave, side bearers therefor, a reversible bar rotatably mounted therein, and a member insertible against the inactive face of the said bar to retain either face thereof in active position.
2. In a thresher concave, side bearers therefor, and a reversible bar rotatably mounted therein, the said side bearers being provided with means on their inner faces for the reception of a pin whereby the pins are insertible over the inactive face of the said bar to retain either face thereof in active position.
3. In a thresher concave, side bearers therefor, one of the bearers having spaced lugs on the inner face thereof, the said lugs having projecting lips, a rotatable bar mounted in the bearers, and a member insertible between the said lips and corresponding bearer to lock the rotatable bar in position.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto afiixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
