Description
s@ stent @Mira 4HIAL H. NEWTON, OF CLEVELAND', OHIO.
Letters Patent N 103,915, dated 'Jane 7, 1870.
mrnovnunm' nv 'mJy-Pins.
The Schedule referred to in -these Lettori Patent and making part of the same.
who- To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HIMJ H. NEWTON, of Cleveland, county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have llave invented a'new and improved Tidy-Pin; and I do hereby declare thatfthesfollowing is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification.
4This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in a device for fastening tidies to upholstered furniture, for the protection of such furniture; and
It consists in a pin with an elastic head, constructed with double prongs, ashereinafter more fully described.
.In the accompanying drawing- Figure 1 is afront view, showing the form and manner in which the pin is constructed.
Figure 2 is a side view.
vSimilar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This pin is made with two prongs, or is double, as seen in lig. 1, of a single piece of wire, with a head formed of one or more coils, by which coils the pin is rendered elastic, and less liable to work out when in use. This elasticity would be of slight advantage in a single pin, but ,with a doubl -prong pin itis a very essential feature.
A is the pin. .The pin may be made doublepronged, with a single coil, or with two coils.
In this example of my invention I show itmade with three coils, marked B, C, and D, and I prefer to make the pin inA this form, or with 'the' threev coils, but do not couliue myself exclusively thereto.
The pin is made of a single piece of wire, with the head or coils turned back, as represented in iig. 2, plated wit-h gold or silver, or otherwise rendered ornamental, so that the pin will not onlyvbe very useful but present a handsome and tasty appearance.
It is not my design to lay any claim to novelty on the pin or on a coil, separately, since I am well aware that these have been used singly and in combination with other things for a thousand purposes, but
What I do esteem to be my invention, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of a pair' of prongs, A, with three coils, B, O, D, constructed and arranged as shown in iig. 1 of drawing, to form an improved tidy pin.
Cleveland, March 28, 1870.
