CURTAIN-STRETCHER.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, NAN Gr, HARPER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Altoona, in the county of Blair and IState of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Stretchers,

of which the following is a speciiication.

This invention relates to folding curtain stretchers, and the object of the invention is to provide a frame that can be used for the purpose of stretching curtains, which is light, adjustable to any size or width of curtain, and arranged to fold so as to require a minimum amount of space when not in use.

With these and other objects in view the invention resides in the novel construction of elements and their arrangement in operative combination, hereinafter fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a top plan view of a curtain stretcher constructed in accordance with my invention, the frame being shown in its spread position. lFig. 2 is a similar view of one end of the frame, the frame being shown partially folded. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view upon the line 3-3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is an enlarged longitudinal sectional View upon the line 1-t of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a similar view upon the line 5-5 of Fig. 2.

My invention comprises, essentially, a rectangular support or frame, the four sides of which are each represented by a system of lazy tongs, the frame being preferably longer in one direction than in the other so that two opposite sets of lazy tongs forming the sides 1 and 2, are considerably longer than the two sets of lazy tongs 3 and 4, forming the ends of the frame. These sets of lazy tongs are of the usual construction, and the four ends of the system are connected by slotted L-shaped links orbrackets 5. The inner members of the side and end sets are pivotally connected with the meeting ends of the right angularly arranged slotted links 5 by the pivots 6, while the adjacent links of the lazy tongs are provided with suitable perforations adapted for the reception of threaded retaining elements Y Specification of Letters Patent.

The sides l and 2 of the frame are provided with a plurality of strengthening bars 9. These bars 9 are constructed in sections, each of which is secured to the sides 1 and 2, and are connected by an intermediate se'c tion. The bars comprising the strengthening elements 9, are each provided with longitudinal slots, and the bars are placed one below the other as clearly illustrated in Fig. 3 of the drawings, the slots adapted to aline and receive threaded retainingelements 10, by which the sections of the strengthening elements may be arranged in desired relation with each other. The pivoted members of the inner and middle joints of the lazy tong system are provided with pins or projections 12, adapted for engaging the curtains to be stretched upon the frame. The pint-les 1l connecting the strengthening bars 9 with the sides l andV 2 of the frame are provided with threaded extensions adapted for engagement with threaded elements 13,by which the strengthening elements may be readily detached from the frame when desired, it being understood, that these strengthening elements are required only when the frame is used in connection with heavy materials.

From the above description it will be seen that I have provided a simple, cheap and eective folding curtain stretcher, one by which any size of curtains may be readily stretched without regard to the width or length of the curtain, and one which may be readily adjusted and held in said adjusted position by simply securing the end members of the lazy tongs in desired position upon the slotted links 5, by simply rotating the elements 8 upon the threaded members 7.
