SKIRT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 10, 1912.
Application filed June 3,1911. Serial No. 630,970.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JACOB AARON HER- MAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, in the county and State of New York, and whose post-oflice address is 49-51 West Twenty-fourth street, New York city, New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Skirts, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in skirts, whereby the skirts may be adjusted to the size of the wearer and also present a smooth surface both at the front and rear.
The accompanying drawings will serve to illustrate my invention, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the skirt showing the parts in the open position. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the parts (in full line) in the closed position, with the meeting edges of the front and back portions (in dotted lines) in the open position. Figs. 3, 41, show modifications of the adjusting portion of the skirt.
In the drawings, 5 represents front portion; 6, back portion; 7, bottom portion; 8, adjusting portions; 9, placket portion. The parts, 5, 6 and 7 are secured together by seams 10, 11, 12. The adjusting portions 8 at the right hand side are connected to the front portion 5 by seam 12, and on the left hand side (Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 4) are connected to placket portion 9 by the seam 13. The placket portion 9 is secured at the bottom, by sewing or otherwise, to the front and back portions 5 and 6, as shown at 14:.
The adjusting portions 8 may be variously constructed. In Fig. 1 they are shown as provided with eyelets 15 and a lacing 16. In Fig. 3, with hooks l7 and lacing 18. In Fig. 4 the same arrangement as shown in Fig. 1 is employed, excepting that there are two sets of eyelets and two sets of lacings,
one at each side, with hooks 19 and eyes 20 for connecting adjusting portions 8 together.
Situated on the waist band at the upper edge of the front portion 5, is hook 22 which is adapted to take in any of the eyes 28 on waist portion of the adjusting portion 8. Similar hooks 24 are on the upper ends of back portion 6 and adapted to take in eyes 25 on the waist band of front portion 5. The front portion 5 is also provided with hooks 26 which take in eyes 27 on the placket portion 9.
To adjust the device, the skirt is placed upon the wearer and the hook 22 and eye 23 engaged, after which the lacing 16 is drawn upor loosened to make the required size. Then the back portion 6 is brought up and the hooks 24: inserted in the eyes 25 on the front portion 5.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
A skirt, comprising a closed front ortion, a closed back portion, said portions connected together for a part of their length, an intermediate portion arranged in front of the back portion, means for positively adjusting the intermediate portion to the size of the wearer, a placket opening formed by a side of said intermediate portion and a side of said front portion, fastening devices for closing said placket opening, and adjustable fastening means whereby the remainder of said back portion can be secured either to said front portion or to said intermediate portion.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
JACOB AARON HERMAN.
Witnesses:
HELEN E. KoELsoH, ELI WEILL.
