Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
WILLIAM H. FAHRNEY, OF ROOKFORD, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND JOHN DONALDSON, OF SAME PLAGE.
IMPROVEMENT IN DOOR-STOPS.
Specicaton forming part of Letters Patent N0. 103,729, dated May 31, 1870.
I, WILLIAM H. FAHRNEY, of the city of Rockford, Winnebago county, and State of Illinois, have invented certain Improvements in Door-Stops, of which the following is a speciication:
Nature mtl Object of the Intention.
My invention relates to a door-stop provided with an elastic cushion and spring-detent, of such construction that the elastic cushion is held in place by means of the hookinghead of the spring-detent, which drops into a notch in the side and outer end of the cushion, and of such construction that the outer end of the cushion and spring-detent shall be of about the same length, and present an even outer surface, and so arranged that the hooking-head of the spring-detent shall drop into an openin gin a strike-plate on the front edge of the door, with the hooking-head of the spring-detent of such form as will permit of the door being detached therefrom by a slight pull 5 the object being to provide a door-stop with an elastic cushion to receive the door when it is thrown open, and that will hold it in position, and from which it can be detached by a pull upon the door to bring it to; also, that will present an even outer surface, so as not to catch in passing objects.
-Descriptioii ofthe Accompanying Drawing.
Figure l is an isometrical internal view of rooms with my invention applied to the door. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the stop. Fig. 3 is an outer end view ot' the same. Fig. 4 is a section of the door, showing the recess to receive the spring-detent.
General Description. A is a door, hung upon hinges to jamb ot' opening B,'which it is intended to close. C is G, into which is placed the spiral spring H, on which is placed the pin I, which is notched on the side and outer end to receive the hooking-head a of spring-detect K, and in such a manner that the spring Kwill prevent it from being thrown out by the action of the spiral spr-ing H, and also in such a manner that the outer end of the pin I and spring K will be of about the same length, so as to present a smooth outer surface, to prevent it catching in passing objects.
K is a spring of suitable form, let in or secured to the side of C in such a manner that the tendency of the outer end thereof will be inward .The outer end of this spring is formed, as represented at a, with an outward bevel, against which it is proposed the door shall strike. Below this bevel it is formed hooking, so that it may drop into the recess L, provided for it in front edge ot' strike-plate M on front edge of door A.
M is a plate, with v a suitable opening, L, to receive the hooked head of spring K. It is proposed to make this hook slightly bevelin g outward, of such forni as will hold the door in place, and will also yield to a proper force applied to the door to bring it to.
Claims.
I claim as my inventionl. Constructing the elastic cushion I with a suitable notch to receive the hooking-head a of spring-detent K, in the manner and for the purpose substantially as hereinbefore shown and described.
2. The combination of spiral spring H, cushion I, notched as described, and spring-detent K, when these parts are constructed, arranged, and applied to operate as a whole, in connection with strike-plate M on door A, as and for the purpose hereinbefore set forth.
