In the embodiment of the invention, 1 provide a cover or folderl, formed from a sheet of tough heavy paper, flexible cardboard,stiii'ened-cloth or other suitable material," sai'd' sheet being creased at two points to permit'the same to be folded, thereby forming a back member 2, a tab or hinge and clipping protecting member 3 which-is adapted to be folded over the clippings'and their attaching devices hereinafter described, and a cover flap or protecting member 4 which is adapted to be folded over upon the clipping protecting member 3 as clearly shown in Figs.'1 and 4 of the drawing. The sheet 5 forming the clipping attach;- ing member is slitted transversely at intervals to form a plurality of flexible clipping attaching tabs 7, said slits being cut at equal distances apart to form tabs from the secured portion of the sheet to the outer edge thereof. r

The tabs or hinges 7 are gummed on their upper sides to receive the clippings one of which is attached to each hinge ortab by moistening the back of the upper end of the clipping and applying the moistened surface to the gumnied side of the tabs on hinges. as clearly shown in Fig." 2 of the drawing. By the employment of the narrow continuous securing portion 6, the flexible tabs 5 forming a part ofthe same are adapted to be closely confined within the folder with the clippings attached thereto,

when the same is in a closed position. Vhen thus applied the titles of the clippings will. be exposed one above the other while the clippings themselves will be disposed behind each other and behind the tabs or hinges as shown. By arranging the clippings in this manner the clipping attached to the upper tab or hinge will be the lowermost clipping in the file, while the clipping attached to the lower tab will be the uppermost clipping in the file. The clippings attached to the intermediate tabs will be arranged one above or in front of the other from the clipping on the upper tab toward. the clipping on the lower tab. hen arranged in this manner with their titles exposed, any desired clipping may be readily located and when found, access may be quickly had thereto by simply swinging back the tabs and clippings above or in front of the same in the same manner as turning the leaves of a book.

As clearly shown and described, the entire width of the continuous securing edge of the flexible strip 6 is secured to the back member 2, and the tabs 7 formedin the manner previously described extend to the unsecured creased portion of the strip, said portion corresponding in shape and adjacently arranged along the full length of the hinged portion connecting the front and back members of the cover, whereby the tabs are rendered flexible along their entire length and the clippings attached thereto snugly conlined and properly assembled, the space located between the tabs of the sheet and back of the cover beyond the secured edge of the strip (5 being sutficient to accommodate the clippings in the manner described.

in practice it is intended that the files be arranged in a suitable receptacle and mum bered or lettered and arranged in numeri al or alphabetical order thus enabling the same to be conveniently indexed so that the file containing any topic or sub-topic may be readily located.

Attention is called to the fact that length of clipping may be attached to one hinge by folding the clipping back forth to the required length.

From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is A clipping file comprising a cover adapt.- ed to be folded to form a back member and two protecting cover members foldable upon one another, a clipping attaching sheet secured to the back member adjacent to the fold of the cover, said clipping sheet having a continuous securing edge, tabs forming a continuation of said securing edge and folded upon the latter and against the same, whereby spaces are formed between the tabs and back of the cover, the folded portion of the strip being disconnected from the adjacent fold of the cover thus permitting the tabs to yield a slight distance horizontal y when the cover is being folded, said tabs be ing gummed on their surfaces adjacent to any any the back of the cover to fasten the clippings one below and in front of the other, whereby when the file is closed the clippings are compactly confined therein.
