CLOSURE FOR BOTTLES. I

To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that I, JOHN S. RAMSEY, a

citizen of the United States, residing at Virsylvia, in the county of Taos and State of New Mexico, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Closures for Bottles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference-being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in closures for milk bottles, etc., and consists. of a simple and eflicient device which maybe attached to an ordinary bottle and form'a secure closure therefor.

The invention comprises various details of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claims.

Iillustrate my invention in the accom' panying drawings, in which Figure his a perspective view showing the application of the invention to a bottle. Fig. 2 is a detail of the two clamping jaws with the closure removed, showing bracket supporting-arms in section, and Fig. 3' is a detail view of the closure.

Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates the neck of a bottle, and B, B designate two curved jaws, preferably concaved, and adapted to embrace the marginal edge of the neck of a bottle in the manner shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. Said jaws are hinged together at C and each is provided With an apertured lug D.

A closure, designated by letter F, has a Specification of Letters Patent.

handle H with oppositely disposed lugs I thereon which are apertured. A pivotal pin N passes through registering apertures in said lugs upon the jaws-of the handle and the apertures in the lugs D are of suflicient size to allow the jaws to swing short dis tances upon their pivot C, A. coiled spring E is mounted upon the pivotal pin N and is interposed between the lugs D, D, serving to normally hold the jaws in contact with the beading about the end of the neck of a bottle. Said closure may be held normally in a closed relation by gravity or spring, actuated, as may be desired.

From the foregoing, it will be noted that, by the provision of a device as shown and described, a simple and efficient means is afforded wherebya temporary closure may be had for milk bottles, etc., the jaws being held by friction through the medium of the spring and affording means for readily removing the closure when desired in applying the same to other bottles.

What I claim to be'new is:-

l. A closure for milk bottles, consisting of two curved jaws hinged together, a lug projecting from each jaw adjacent to its hinged end, a spring interposed between said lugs, and a pivotal closure carried by said lugs, as set forth.

2. A closure for milk bottles, consisting of two curved jaws hinged together, a lug projecting from each jaw adja ent to its hinged end, a spring interposed between said lugs, a pin carried by said lugs, and a closure having a handle pivoted to said pin, as set forth.
