Description

H. CREMER. BOTTLE CLOSURE.
FILED MAR. 15. 1915.
PatentedSept. 21, 1915.
TAT
UKT
HENRY CREIYIER, OF CHICAGO; ILLINOIS.
BQTT'LE-CEGSURE.
Application filed March 15, 1915.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY CREMER, a citizen of the United States, residing at 5817 Ridge avenue, city of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new Bottle-Closure, of which'the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in bottle-closures, and consists of the construction and arrangement of parts to form in combination with a bottle or similar vessel an exertion reducing power appliance, with handling and carrying facilities.
The object of my invention is, first to provide abottle or similar vessel with an economical closing device.
Another object is, to provide a bottle closing device in combination with a bottle with a practical and easy operative expedient to open such bottle. further object is, the provision of a bottle closing device with a simple contrivance for convenient carrying or handling.
I attain these objects by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which l igure 1 represents a front view of my in vention complete when the bottle is closed, showing the bottle in position to be carried by the handle. Fig. 2, is a perspective view of the bottle partly open showing the action of the handle and opening lever. Fig. 3, shows the bottle in perspective partly open after removing the handle to show the fulcrum of the levers.
For convenience in referring to the various details of my invention and coiiperative members, numerals will be employed, the same numeral applying to a corresponding part throughout the several views.
Referring to the numerals on the drawing, 1 is an annular member of suitable material secured to the bottle neck having adversely disposed eyes or recesses 2, in which rectangularly bent ends 3 of a horseshoe-shaped adjusting lever 4 are journaled. Said recesses may also be cast in the bottle or similar vessel. The medial part 4: of the adjusting lever abuts normally against the bottle and forms at points 5 oppositely located loops, adapted to engage the rectangularly Specification of Letters Patent.
Serial No. 14,610.
bent extremities 7 of a horseshoeshaped bail 6. The medial portion 9 of bail 6 has a pivotal engagement with a stopper 8, and passes loosely through the stopper to allow the loose ends 7 of the bail 6 in loops 5 to swing across the axis of the bottle when pressure is applied to the lever. The adjusting lever 4k is bent by loops 5 in a manner to resemble an L shape, so that when the stopper is placed on the bottle and the medial part l of the adjusting lever is pressed against the bottle, the bail is swung across the axis of the bottle and drawn down or toward the top of the bottle whereby the stopper is forced on or into the bottle neck and closes the same. If pressure is applied upon the adjusting lever in the opposite direction, the bail swings back across the aXis of the bottle and raises the stopper.
To facilitate the opening of the bottle, I provide the bottle with an opening lever preferably made of rod or wire, and bent so as to form a horizontal bar 12 and two side arms or vertical bars 10. The horizontal bar or medial part 12 of the opening lever, is constructed to constitute a handle by which the lever is operated and the bottle is carried. The side bars 10 are twisted around the j ournaled ends 3 of the adjusting lever 4 and have their extremities 11 slung underneath the part between the journaled ends 3 and the loops 5 to engage the adjusting lever, which in turn engages the bail when pressure is applied to the handle 12. While the bearing of the extremities 3 of the adjusting lever, and the bearing of the extremities 7 of the bail is toward the bottle, the extremities 11 of the opening lever point in the opposite direction, and act on the ad justing lever with contrary effect to the adjusting lever. As it is more convenient in some instances to have the handle made of different material, I reserve the right to construct the same of any material. and form as it appears most practical in use.
lVhat I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is The combination of a bottle with a bottle closure comprising a stopper engaged with a bail, an adjusting lever formed with a loop or eye engaging the extremities of said bail,

said adjusting lever having its ends jour- In testimony whereof I have signed my naled in recesses or eyes at the side of the name in presence of tWo subscribing Withottle neck, and a carrying handle in comnesses. bination With a lever, said lever engaging HENRY CREBIER. V the adjusting lever and acting thereon With Vitnesses: contrary efiect to said adjusting lever, sub- 1 JOHN M. Sor-rMirz, stantially for the purpose set forth. OTTO l -KALV11LA(1E.
