Application filed March 1, 1922. Serial No. 540,243.

Another object is to provide a device of this character which is simple and compact in construction, can be easily applied and operated, and will not injure the top or the washer on which the top is mounted.
A further object is to provide a sealing device which will permit the use of old tops and old washers, said device serving to roll out Or smooth any irregularities or bends that may have been formed in the edge of .the top. I
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that, within the scope of what is claimed, changes in the precise embodiment of the invention shown can be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.

a handle 2 which can be provided with an opening 3 whereby the device can be suspended from a nail or the like. At the ends of the yoke there are formed ears 4 each of which has a rivet 5 secured therein on which a wheel 6 is mounted for rotation. These wheels are slightly tilted as shown in Figures 1 and 4 and they are disposed in planes that converge toward the center of the yoke. The margins of the wheels are rounded.
Extending from the center of the yoke midway between the wheels is an ear 7 to which is secured an arm 8 extending substantially at right angles to the ear and terminating in a depending finger 9 having an inturned terminal 10. This arm is formed preferably of spring metal and is of such length as to bridge a jar top.
In using the device the terminal 10 is placed in engagement with one ofthe external threads or corrugations on the top T of a jar. The device is then swung downwardly so as to bring the wheels 6 into position upon the outturned marginal portion T of the top. Assuming that the top has already been tightened on a jar so as to compress a gasket or washer thereunder, the complete sealing of the jar can be insured by applying this device to the top as described and then rotating the device upon the top. During this operation the Wheels 6 will travel along the outturned edge T while the terminal 10 will slide along the opposed portion of the top. By bearing downwardly on the handle 2 during this operation the wheels will press downwardly on the outturned rim T and tend to press it downwardly into the washer or gasket, at the same time rolling out or smoothing any bends or other irregularities that may be present in the rim. By forming the arm 8 of spring metal the finger 9 can be sprung to any angle necessary to cause the device to fit:
