Seaming; seamed joints.-The end A<2> of a metal or otber container A is folded over the flanged cap B, or vice versa, by a tool comprising a rotary member E driven by a spindle D but slidable thereon against the pressure of a spring D<1> and having a flange E<1> formed with an inclined inner wall merging into a groove provided with pins or rollers E<2> by means of which the container flange is folded over the flange of the cover, whereupon radially moving members J actuated by a cam K on the continued downward movement of the spindle compresses the folded rim. The downward movement of the rotary member E is limited by stops G contacting with a casing F mounted on the member E by a, ball bearing F<1> and the cam K is arrested when the compression of the folded rim is complete by stops K<1>. The ends of the arms J may be provided with grooved rollers J<1>. The thickened rim may be folded over on itself, as shown in Fig. 3, by a second operation with the stops G removed, the member .E descending until the casing F contacts with stops C<1> on the container holder C. The radially moving arms may engage the outer surface of the rim and compress it against an inner part. The Provisional Specification also states that the container may be rotated and the tool non-rotating.
