Letters Patent No. 103,678,`dated May 31,1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN COMBIN'IIION TOOL. 4
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the salme.
To all whom it may concern- Bc it known that I, GEORGE W. STooKWnLL, of Natchez, iu the county of Adams and IState of Mississippi, have invented a new and improved Combination Tool; and-I do hereby declare that the followingis'afull, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this speciticatiomin which-4- 1,;igure l represents a side view of my improved too Figures 2 and 3 are side views of attachments to the same.
Figure 4 is a sectional side view of the same.

This invention relates to' a new household tool, which contains a majority ofthe devices generally required for'domestic purposes.
lhe invention consists in the combinationof a handle, hammer, and clamping-screw, of the several instruments, as hereinafter more fully described.
A, in the drawing, represents the head of a hammer affixed to the end 'of 'a metal` bar, B, which constitutes its shank.
The shank .B has straight edges, which are at right angles to the lower face of the head A. The hammer thus constitutes a square.
A graduated scale being marked on the face of the shank A, the latter can be used as a rule, and its lower end be made of tapering form; also, asa screw-driver.
The shank B can be fitted through a wooden handle, C, and clamped therein by means of a set-screw, D. From one side of the hammer projects a hook, d, and from its other face a pointed pin, b. The pin can be used to pierce` the centers of metal cans and for other similar purposes.
In conjunction with va pin c, projecting from the screw D, it serves to convert the linstrument into a compass.
E is a small knife, projecting from the upper end of the handle O. When the hook a is fitted through the center of a can-cover, the knife will, by revolving the entire tool around the` hook, serve to cut a circular piece out of' the cover. The handle being longitudinally adjustable on the shank B, permits the distance between the hook and knife, or between the pins b c, to be varied at will. A. Into the handle may, iu place or alongside of the shank B, be secured the tool ll, shown in tig. 2, which has a claw, d, at one, and a marker, e, at the other end. For the reception of this tool the handle may be either separately slotted, in which case the shank can remain in place while such tool is being applied, or the shank is removed, and either end of the tool 11 secured in its place.
Another tool, G, haviuga chisel, f, at one, and a bit, g, at the other end, may also, in a similar manner,v
be secured in the handle.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A compound tool, having the hammer-head, A a b, the metal shank B, serving for rule, square, and screwdriver, united to a sliding handle O, provided with knife E and thumb-screw D, all relatively arranged as set forth.
