mung and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Cover for ironing Boards, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

. The invention relates to laundry appliances, and its object is to provide a new and improved cover for an ironing board arranged to permit plain ironing, ironing of filigree or lace, and to allow of readily placing the cover in position on the board or removing it therefrom.

For the pur iose mentioned, use is made of a body of clt or the like, two covering sheets of different fabric materials and extending over the opposite faces of the iilling, the cover having means for detachably fastening it on the ironing board, with either covering sheet uppermost, one covering sheet when on top being used for plain ironing and the other when on top being used for ironing filigree or lace and other fine, delicate materials.

A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the cover as applied to an ironing board; Fig. 2 is a cross section of the same on the'line Q-Qvof Fig. l; Fig. 3 is an enlarged side elevation of the same on the line 3-3 of Fig. l; Fig. alis an inverted plan view of one end of the cover as applied; Fig. 5 .is a face view of the cover, parts being broken out; and Fig. 6 is an enlarged sectional side elevation of the same.

The body A of the cover for the ironing board B is preferably made of thick felt or like material, and of a length corresponding approximately to that of the ironing board and of a width preferably somewhat in excess of the Width of the ironing board so that the side edges of the cover can be bent over the side edges of the ironing board onto the under side thereof, as plainly shown in the drawings. The body A is provided along its sides with spaced gromets C, having heads at both faces of the body, which heads are spread on washers C", the heads and washers forming buttons for engagement by buttonholes on facing sheets D and iipecicetion 5t' Letters Patent.

1E for covering the opposite facesof the body A. lThe facing sheets D and E are of `approximately the-same size, length and width lof the body A, and the facing sheet -D is of a smooth fabric, such as pressed cotton, and the other facing sheet E is of a downy material, such as flannel. For plain ironing the cover is placed on the ironing board B with the facing D uppermost, and for ironing filigree, lace and other tine articles and materials the cover is placed reversedly in position on the ironing board, that is, with the facing E uppermost.

Either facing D or E may be quickly re moved and replaced by another, if worn out, or if soiled such facing sheet can be removed, washed and then replaced.

In order to fasten the cover securely in place on the ironing board B use is preferably madc of a lacing string or cord F, which is passed through the gromets C alternately from one side of the cover to the other (see Fig. ll), and one end of the lacing string F is provided with a gripping member (i adapted to 'be engaged by the other end of the lacing string F to fasten 'Lne ends' together after the lacing string -F is drawn sulliciently tight on the underside of Vthe ironing board to hold the cover tightly stretched over the face of the ironing board.

It is understood that by the use of the lacing string the cover can be readily ,released from the ironing board, removed and reversed, for bringing either facing sheet D or E uppermost, according to the nature of the article or material to be ironed at the time.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. A cover for ironing boards, comprising a body formedV of a piece of felt, gromets held cn the sides of the said body, and independent facing sheets having holes along the sides for removable engagement with the heads of said gromets.
