SKIRT-RACK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 6, 1912.
Application liled March 15, 1911. Serial No. 614,666.
To all 'whom it 'may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN A. DoUcLAss, a citizen of the United States, residing at Austin, in the county of Travis and State of Texas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Skirt-Racks, of which the following is aspecification.
The invention relates to apparel supporters, more particularly supporters adapted to support skirts, and has for an object to provide a device for efficiently and neatly supporting skirts in a depending position so that the same will not become creased or soiled in any manner.
Among other features, my invention embodies a supporter adapted to protect the skirts from any dust, the said supporter also constituting a display rack whereon skirts can be prominently displayed. For the purpose mentioned, use is made of a base provided with an upwardly extending rod and constituting a stand, a supporting body revolubly mounted on the upper end of the said rod and means mounted on the under side of the supporting body for supporting skirts thereon at the waistband thereof, the said skirts being adapted to hang in a depending position.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings constituting a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the views, and in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of my device showing the slidable curtain partially opened to disclose a number of skirts depending from the supporting body of my apparel supporter. Fig. 2 is a view looking at the under side of the supporting body and showing the means for attaching the skirts thereto, and Fig. 3 is a fragmentary sectional view on the line 3-3 in Fig. 1 disclosing the manner of securing the skirt supporting means to a supporting body.
Referring more particularly to the views, I employ a base 10 provided with a vertically extending rod 11 and constituting a suitable stand and revolubly mounted at the upper end of the rod 11 is a supporting body 12 preferably circular in form.
Secured in the under side of the supporting body 12 and depending therefrom is a sleeve 13, the said sleeve being adapted to have the upper end of the rod 11 mounted therein.
Secured to the under side of the body 12 and inclosing a portion of the sleeve 13 is a resilient pad 111 and spaced from the resilient pad 11 and disposed adjacent the lower end of the sleeve 13 is a second pad 15.
A plurality of spring clips 16 are provided and have their inner ends engaging the sleeve 13 between the pads 14 and 15, the said inner ends being connected by a wire 17. rlhe clips 16 extend outwardly from the sleeve 13 toward the peripheral surface of the supporting body 12, and the said clips each consist of a plurality of connected bars 18 having their outer ends curved inwardly with springs 19 disposed between the said bars and connected thereto by clamps 20, the said inwardly curved ends of the bars being secured to the supporting body 12 by suitable fastening members 21. The clips 16 are arranged in immediate succession entirely around the under side of the supporting body 12 so that the outer edges of the bars of each clip engage the outer edges of the bars of the next adjacent clip.
Mounted adjacent the periphery of the supporting body 12 on the under side thereof is a trolley 22 from which is slidably mounted to depend a curtain 23, the outer edges of the curtain being adapted to meet so that the curtain will completely inclose the clips 16 and any skirts that may be suspended therefrom.
To position the skirts so that the same will depend from one of the clips 16, the waistband of the skirt is disposed to pass between the outer ends of adjacent clips, the springs 19 of the said clips being adapted to position the said outer edges of the clips so that the waistband of the skirt will be rigidly held in position between the said outer edges. It will be readily seen that by disposing the clips 16 entirely around the under side of the supporting body 12, a large number of skirts can be held in depending position on the supporting body and any one skirt can be easily removed from the clips by simply pulling the skirt outwardly therefrom. By parting the outer ends of the curtain 23, the skirts mounted on the supporting body 12 will be displayed and the supporting body can be revolved on the rod 11 so that any particular skirt can be brought to view. W'hen it is desired to cover up the skirts to prevent the same from being covered with dust or dirt, the curtain 23 can be operated to slide in the trolley 22 so that the said curtain will entirely inclose the said skirts as heretofore mentioned and although for the purpose of describing my invention I have shown a particular construction thereof, it will be understood that the scope of the invention is defined in the appended claim.
Having thus fully described the vention, what I claim as new, is
In combination with an apparel supporter7 a plurality of clips secured thereto, each of the said clips consisting of a plurality of connected bars having their outer ends curved inwardly and terminating in Vfastening members connected to the said supporter, J5
mounted to encircle the said bars and the 20 portions of the springs adjacent thereto.
In testimony whereof I aiitiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
