Patented Apr. 22, 19ML Application led April 12, 1918. Serial No. 228,245.
T0 all whom z' may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBIN THOMAS NALE- wAJA, citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles, State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Neck-Form Devices, of which the following lis a specification.
This invention relates to supports or forms for such articles of apparel as soft collars; and it is an object of this invention to provide a simple and effective form of device which will support a soft collar for display purposes.
Mens stiff collars have been usually displayed by being supported on a suitable supporting member at the rear, usually held by a clip engaging the back part of the collar. Soft collars cannot be eectively displayed in that manner because they hang down limply and are therefore not effectively held in proper position. My device supports a soft collar in an effective display position, displaying the collar as it will appear upon the person; thus adding to the effectiveness of display and increasing sales of the goods.
The invention will be best understood from the following detailed description of a preferred specific form of device which embodies the invention; reference being had for this purpose to the accompanying drawings in which- Y Figure 1 is a perspective of my improved device; Fig. 2. is a sectional view showing the device in place in a collar, and showing the collar supported upon a typical form of display support; Fig. 3 is an enlarged section taken on line 3 3 of Fig. 2; and Fig. 1 is a section similar to Fig. 3, showing a modified construction.
In the drawings I illustrate a soft collar at C. Such a collar has an inner fold 10 and an outer fold. In a typical form of collar display device a vertical standard 12 is used and has spring clips 13 on its forward face. The back part of the stili collar is slipped between clip 13 of a standard 12 and is thus held in display position. I provide a special support for soft collars, which support has a part adapted to fit between the folds of the collar at or near the top, and also has a part adapted to be engaged by clip 13. The support is preferably made in the manner now to be described. I preferably make the support of wire. Any suitable material may b'e used and the wire may be finished, plated or enameled, in any desired manner. preferably somewhat yielding, rather than being excessively springy, so that the support may be somewhat bent to be enlarged or contracted for different sizes of collars. The wire is formed into two substantially semicircular parts 15 whose ends approach each other, leaving however, a slight space between the ends, so that these parts of the wires will not project into the open space at the front of the collar. The two semicircular parts 15 meet at the back at 16 and the two parts of the wire thence extend downwardly as shown at 17. Here they are brazed, soldered or otherwise secured together, to form a part which presents a more or less Hat surface against which the upper engaging end 13a of the spring clip H may press. Below theseparts 17 the two parts of the wire are spread apart again at the point 18 and are then carried on down and are joined together by the horizontal part 19. This parti() is preferably flattened out as is clearly shown in Fig. 2 so as to fit snugly behind the spring clip 13. At each side of the part 19 the wire portions are carried somewhat forwardly (bent somewhat forwardly) as shown at 20; so that these parts extend forwardly on opposite edges of clip 13 to prevent lateral movement of the lower part of the device behind the spring clip. As a modified form, these parts may be bent as shown at 2O2L in Fig. l to extend on opposite sides of the standard 12; to eifect the same purpose.
The device is placed in the soft collar in the position indicated in Fig. 2 and then the collar and the supporting device are placed in position as shown in that figure. The clip bears against the parts 17 of the supporting device and the parts '20 prevent the supporting device from moving out of proper position. The collar is thus supported properly to make an effective dirplay.
In its preferred form it will be seen that this device is made of a single piece of wire bent and formed in. the preferred coniigura tion herein described. However, it will be understood that I have only described this` specific form of device as being a preferred form of device embodying my invention and not as limiting the invention.
.The material however, is
their free ends somewhat spaced apart, said vertical part being relatively narrow in its upper part and relatively wide in its lower part, and said lower part having laterally projecting portions adapted to project on opposite edges of a supporting clip which engages the vertical portion of thc device.
2. A device of the character described, formed of a single piece of wire of a flexible conformable material; the end portions of said wire forming two opposite substantially semi-circular parts with their ends so1newhat spaced apart, and these semi-circular end-portions coming together at a point opposite the spaced apart ends, the two parts of the wire extending downwardly from the point of juncture and being secured together for a certain distance downwardly, the two wire parts below then spreading apart and being joined at the bottom by a horizontal part of the wire, and forwardly projecting' parts at the ends of the horizontal parts, as and for the purpose described.
3. A collar supporting device, embodying in combination a supporting standard, a collar support embodying a central substantially flat portion of a height substantially the same as that of a collar and adapted to t in vertical position between the folds of a collar at its rear part, curved collar supporting members extending laterally and forwardly from the upper end of the central portion, and means on the standard to hold and press said central portion and the back part of the' collar back against the standard.
In witness that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto subscribed my name this 5th day of April 1918.
