To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, HARRY SCHANDEIN for displaying articles of merchandise such as individual boxes or packages of perfumed confections, perfumery, etc., and the particular object of this invention is to pro- 'vide a partition for separating the tiers of individual boxes held by the terraced supports, and toy provide the partitions with means for holding them perpendicular to the terraced supports.

The invention is specially applicable to the box patented to us July 19, 1910, No. 965,019, which we have found susceptible of the improvement forming the subject matter of this application, and by means of which this invention is carried out.

In the accompanying drawings forming part of this application :Figure 1 is a perspective view of the box partially filled and showing certain of the partition braces extended. Fig. 2 is a cross section of the ter raced supports, the dotted lines showing the partition braces extended. Fig. 3 is a plan View of a partition blank. Fig. 4. is a perspective view of a partition partly broken away showing the braces in two positions.

The same reference characters denote the same parts throughout the several views of the drawings.

The construction of the display box for which this invention is specially designed is covered by our patent hereinbefore mentioned, therefore said box will not be described in detail, but will only be herein referred to in so far as necessary for this application.

The display box 1, and its attachments, are preferably made of cardboard, or simi- --lar material, capable of being bent and folded, and the box has a closed back 2, provided with a covering fiat 8, closed ends 4, a bottom 5, and a stiffened front flange 6. The box is divided lengthwise into a series of article-holding pockets 7, by means of steps or terraced supports 8 extending from one to the other of the box ends, and a longitudinal pocket 9 is formed adjacent to the front flange 6. The steps or supports 8 each has a portion 10, projecting above it which forms a front for the pocket 7.

For the purpose of convenience in vending and protecting the individual boxes, it

has been found desirable to separate (longitudinally) the articles or individual confection boxes 11, contained in each pocket, and for this, among other purposes, a longitudinal partition 12 is placed in each pocket. It has also been found that in vending the boxes 11, the boxes remaining in the broken tiers tilt or fall forward by reason of the depth and flexibility of the partitions 12,

advantage and objection, the partitions are made with braces 13. The partitions 12, all being of the same design or construction, only one of them will be described in detail, it is composed of foldable .or flexible material such as cardboard, adapted to be bent longitudinally at right angles on the dotted line AA (Fig. 3) so as to form a base 14, and a partition portion 15, said base being attached to the supports 8, and in the pocket 9. The portion 15, has the braces 13 partially cut out of it, and such braces are projected at right angles to the portion 15 by bending them outwardly on the dotted lines B. The braces 13 of the respective part-itions are of such length as to engage the box-front flange 6 and the pocket fronts 10, and thereby hold the partitions in upright or vertical position when the pockets are not fully occupied. WVhen the pockets are fully occupied the braces are not used but they remain flush with the partitions and do not interfere with the individual boxes. In displaying (in a single tier for each pocket) articles of greater size or thickness than the individual boxes, the partition portion 15 is not bent into vertical position but may remain in fiat position.

It will be observed that the individual boxes are arranged in two tiers for each pocket or terrace, with the partitions dividing or separating the tiers of each terrace; that the partitions and one or more of the partition braces may be used according to the number of individual boxes on display; and that, in the event of any one of the front tiers of boxes being displaced, the boxes of the next or rear tier will be displayed in proper position by bending the braces outwardly into engagement with the adjacent front or fronts of the pockets.

Having thus described our invention what a we claim as new and desire to secure'by Letters Patent is 1. The combination, with a box having terraced pockets for displaying articles of merchandise therein, of means for forming;

an inner bottom for the pockets and for converting each pocket into a pair of pockets,

comprising a flexible section, one portion thereof being secured and the other portion being bendable from flat position to vertical position, and a plurality, of braces partially cut out of the said bendable portion and adapted to be projected therefrom into enigagement with the pocket fronts for bracing the said bendable portion in vertical position.

' 2.'The combination, with a display box having terraced pockets, of a partition havinga portion secured to and covering part of the bottom of the pockets, and a bendable portion free'from and covering the other part of the pocket bottoms and adapted to 1 stand at right angles to said bottoms for longitudinally dividing each of said pockets into two pockets, and a plurality of braces struck out of and foldable flush with said bendable portion and adapted to have free engagement with the pocket fronts for holding the bendable portion in vertical position.
