GARMENT-CONNECTING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
, PatentedJune18,-1912.
Appliation filed my. 25,1003. Serial No. 445,311.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Momus SCHWARTZ, a.
citizen of the United States, residing in the city of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Gonnectin Devices, of which the following is a speci cation.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in garment connecting devices, and more particularly devices employed for the purpose of connecting adjacent garments so that the latter will be held in proper relation to each other.
It is well known that vests, particularly the full-dress type are prone to creep upwardly above the trousers, at times for a distance sufficient to expose the waist band of the trousers, and even the white shirt, which causes not only an unsightly disarrangement of the clothing but causes considerable embarrassment to the wearer.
My object is, therefore, to provide simple and eflicient means for maintaining a vest and the trousers in proper relation, said means consisting of a connecting device adapted to engage both the vest and the trousers. a
To the ends stated, the invention consists primarily of flexible bands or ribbons of any suitable material having at their respective ends attaching means for engaging co-.
acting means carrledby the vest and trousers. An adjustable connection is provided between the two pieces for the adjustment of the len th of the complete band as maybe required.
I have fully and clearly illustrated my invention in the accompanying drawings to be taken as a part of this specification and wherein;
Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of a vest and pair of trousers connected by a deyice embodying my invention, said device being shown in operative position in dottedlines. Fig. 2 is a view from the inside of the vest and trousers showing one form of the connecting device in applied position.
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2 showing another form of the invention.
Referring to the drawings by characters of reference 2-1 designates a vest of the lowcut or full dress style, and2 the upper portion of a pair of trousers, the same being disposed in the same relative arrangement assumed when being worn, the trousers being covered at the waist-band portion by the lower edge of the vest as clearly shown in the drawings. 4
Sewed or otherwise secured to the inside of the vest, at a point above'the lower edge thereof is a, button 3, and secured inside the trousers below the upper edge of the waistband is a button 4, which buttons serve as the means by which the connecting device is attached to the respective garments. As shown in Fig. 2 this connecting device comprises two strips of flexible material havin the requisite strength and durability, suc as leather, one of, which is provided with a plurality of socketpieces 7 arranged lengthwise thereof, and the other of said strips having a resilient head 8 adapted to engage said socket pieces to connect said strips to one another. It will be readily apparent that the head 8 may be engaged with any one of said sockets so that the length of the complete device may be conveniently regulated.
The outer end of each of the strips 5, 6, is provided with a button hole 9, 10, respec tively, the former being intended to receive the buttons 3 carried by the vest, and the other the button 4 secured to the inside of the trousers.
When the connecting device is secured to the buttons 3', 4, as just mentioned, it will be readily apparent that the vest and trousers will be held in proper relation so that they cannot be easily pulled apart so as to expose the shirt. The tension on the connecting device may be readily regulated by adjusting the strips 5, 6, relative to each other by means of the head and socket fastening as described above, and the same features of adjustment may also be utilized wise of the other strip. The strip 6, if desired, may also be provided with an additional button-hole 14, to provide for further adjustment.
While I have shown buttons and buttonholes as being the most convenient and inexpensive means for connecting the device to the garments, I do not wish to be limited to such embodiment, as other and etficient means might be employed without departthereof, a similar strip buttoned to the upper portion of the trousers on the inside thereof, a series of fastening devices carried by one of said strips, and a series of complementary fastening devices on the other strip,
substantially as shown andrdescribed and for the purpose set forth.
' MORRIS SCHWARTZ.
