To all whom it may concern;

Be it known that I, JAMEs A. HALL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Combination Reel and Rack for the EX- hibition of Wall-Paper, of which the following is a specification.

The object of this, my inventiornis to display in the most convenient manner an almost innumerable number of wall paper samples by having the wall paper books (each book containing about one hundred and fifty samples) so attached to it that they can Without any change or detachment be brought into immediate inspection and by means of my invention a salesman can present for inspection of any customer, using the top of the large reel and one or more sides with the racks thereof projecting,

various samples of wall paper at the same identical moment thereby furnishing the best opportunity of comparison and for ascertaining the different effects of light.

My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings.

Figure 1 portrays a single face of the main reel having a two faced subsidiary reel but minus its racks or easels. Fig. 2 is much the same as Fig. 1 but shows in addition thereto the racks or easelsattached to each side of a two sided inner reel and in this figure the inner rack is standing at an angle with the face of the outer reel. In Fig. 3 we have a representation of the entire combination showing the sides and top of the outer reel. In one of the visible sides is a smaller reel, locked, its rack or easel standing at an angle and containing a-wall paper book part of which is turned back over the top of the reel. The other visible side of the outer reel contains an inner two sided reel, not locked but standing at an angle with the face of the outer reel leaving such face open, as it were. This inner reel appears in this figure to have a wall paper book attached to each face and the racks holding such books appear to be hanging loose.

Similar numerals in the several figures refer to similar parts in the several views.

My invention may be described more particularly and in detail as a revolving reel very similar to a revolving book rack but having five or more sides or faces in each side or face of which is also a smaller and independent reel' having two or more faces or sides any one of which may be locked or fastened so as to form at the same'time the face of the larger and independent reel. Attached to each face of the smaller but only at the top and by small hinges (as indicated by the numerals 5 in the drawings) is a rack indicated by the numerals 4 in the accompanying drawings which rack, when the inner reel is not swinging but is stationary with reference to the main or outer reel, can be caused to stand out at an angle of various degrees and locked at the desired angle by means of a prop supported by a ratchet upon the face of the smaller or subsidiary reel. The numerals 3 in the drawings indicate the notches or ratchet to support this prop.

The numerals 1 in the drawings indicate the frame or face of the outer reel and the numerals 2 the rim of the inner reel.

I/Vhat is known to the wall paper trade as a wall paper book (which consists of a large number of wall. paper samples cut of an even length and securely fastened together at one end similar to the binding of a book) is attached to the top of each subsidiary rack. These books are indicated by the numerals 6 in the accompanying drawmgs.

The numerals 7 indicate the top of the outer reel and the numerals 8 the base of outer reel which holds such. reel firm when revolving upon a supporting rod in the center thereof. This base is supported by casters which it is unnecessary to show here. The pinion upon which the inner reel revolves is sufiiciently inside the outer reel to allow such inner reel to revolve freely after the racks and wall paper books are attached to it and in case the subsidiary reel has three or more sides this pinion stands still farther witlhin than in case of a two sided subsidiary ree I am well aware that for years wall paper has been exhibited upon tables of nearly every conceivable shape and size, some oblong, some round and some oval and that many of these were revolving tables and I am also well aware that wall paper has also been for'very many years exhibited upon racks or easels. The turnstile is also old. I do not claim to have invented either a turnstile or a turntable or to have improved either of them as such nor yet do I claim to have invented a rack or easel or to have improved upon them as such but I have in this my improvement produced a device that will be exceedingly useful to the Wall paper merchant by enabling him to display to his customer an almost innumerable number of Wall paper samples and still leave them ready for a like exhibition to the next customer Without any confusion or Without the slightest risk of either tearing 0r soiling any of the samples numerously exhibited.

having a plurality of open sides, a reel mounted for rotation on a vertical axis in each of the open sides of the casing, each reel having a plurality of faces, racks hingedly mounted on the faces of the reels, said racks normally lying in a vertical plane, means to adjust each rack at an angle to the face of the reel in which it is mounted, and locks to hold the reels in fixed relation to the revolving casing.
