rate the members when the box cover is` closed.
To this end the invention consists in the features of construction, combination, and
arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a per spective view of the hinge showing the members separated; Fig. 2 is a perspective view illustrating the method of putting the members together; and Fig. 3 is a section through a box cover and adjacent wall showing the hinge in position.
' In the drawings A represents the pintle member and B the knuckle member of the hinge. The member B is formed at one end with an opening 2 made relatively longer lengthwise of the hinge so as to allow the pintle to be inserted through the opening by holding the same lengthwise or diagonally of the opening as illustrated in Fig. 2. The pintle being inserted through the opening 2, the end of the member B formed with the opening is rolled over the pintle to form the knuckle 3. The knuckle member is bent as shown in Fig. 3 to fit over the top edge of the side wall. of the box and against the inner face of the side wall, the knucklestanding outside the wall. The members of the hinge are secured to the side wall and cover of the box in the usual manner, as by screws 4. The opening 2 may be made long enough so as to allow the pintle to be inserted either corner or lengthwise, said opening being narrower than the length of the pintle so that when the hinge is in the position shown in Fig. 3 the opening up of the roll 3 will not allow the re- Specification of Letters Patent.

moval of the pintle. It will thus be evident that it will be impossible to tamper with the hinge when the cover is closed to separate the pintle and knuckle members without separating the pintle member from the cover and turning it to bring the pint-le lengthwise of the opening 2. Thus any tampering with the hinge to separate the members is rendered impossible.
I claim as my invention:
l. A strap hinge of the class described, comprising a pintle member and a knuckle member, the pintle member being formed at one end with a transversely extending pintle andthe knuckle member being formed at one end with an opening long enough longitudinally of the knuckle member to receive the pintle but narrower than the length of the pintle.
2. A strap hinge of the class described, comprising a pintle member formed at one end with al transversely extending pint-le, the knuckle member beingformed at one end with an opening receiving said pintle, said opening being long enough longitudt nally of the knuckle member to receive the pintle but narrower than the length of the pintle, the end of the knuckle member being rolled over said pint-le when the parts are interlocked. y
3. In combination with a box and cover, comprising a strap hinge of the class described, a flat pintle member to be secured to the underside of the box cover and formed at its outer end with a transversely extending pintle7 a knuckle member bent at right angles to t over the top edge of the adjacent wall of the box and against the inner face of the side wall, the outer end of said knuckle member extending beyond the wall of the box and being formed withan opening long enough longitudinally of the knuckle member to receive the pintle lengthwise, said opening being narrower than the length of the pintle.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
