Maf/MMM Ars BEDSTEAD.
Speeiication of Letters Patent.
Patented May 28,1912.
Application filed April 13, 1912. Serial No. 690,598.
To all 'whom if may concern Be it known that I, EMIL FIsoHAoH, a subject of the German Emperor, residing at rooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bedsteads, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to sectional metal bedsteads.
I-Iitherto with sectional metal bedsteads, in order to assemble and connect the side and the cross bars to the head and the foot end sections of the bedstead conical studs are xed to the side and the cross bars which t in correspondingly shaped sockets made in castings secured to the head and the foot end sections of the bedstead. The soldering or otherwise fixing .of the studs to the bars increases labor the bedsteads.
The object of my invention is to remove this drawback and simplify the construction.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this specification, and in which similar reference characters denote corresponding parts, F igure l being a .partial cross section of a part of a top or a bottom section of the bedstead; Fig. 2 a section on line 2 2 of Fig. l; and Fig. 3 a perspective view of one of the bars.
l/Vith reference to the drawing a denotes a cylindrical part of the head or the foot end of the sectional bedstead to which the socket casting .7J receiving the side and the cross bars c is xed in the usual manner. This casting is provided with substantially and cost of manufacture ofv U-shaped recesses o', which extend from the outer edges of the casting toward the part a and which in front and at the rear are provided with straight extensions 62, b3. The depth of the recesses corresponds with the height of the side and the cross bars. The latter are formed adjacent to their ends with U-shaped impressions c which are adapted to fit in the U-shaped recesses b (Fig. l). The short straight end portions c2 of the bars iit in and extend through the rear straight extensions b2 of the recesses while the longer straight parts c3 of the bars iit in and extend through the straight front extensions b3 of the recesses The bars can be easily slipped into the U-shaped sockets to rest on the bottom b4 thereof.
It will be seen that hereby the construction is greatly simplified, the hitherto used studs being replaced by the impressed portion c.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In a sectional metal bedstead means for joining the side and the cross bars to the head and the foot end sections thereof, comprising castings iixed to the head and the foot end sections and having U-shaped recesses and correspondingly shaped impressed portions in said bars to removably engage said recesses.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
EMIL FISCHBACH.
