UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES G. PATTERSON, OF MAYWOOD, ILLINOIS.
MAP-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 21, 1912.
Application filed January 17, 1911. Serial No. 603,198.
' which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to map holders, and has for an object to provide a device of this character with means whereby a plurality of maps may be arranged in superimposed relation whereby they may be independently viewed.
A still further object of the invention resides in the provision of means for accom modating maps of various sizes.
In the drawings, forming a portion of this specification and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views: Figure l is a front elevation of my improved map holder. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective View of one of the sup.- porting members. Fig. 3 is a detail vertical section taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
My improved may holder consists prefer ably of supportingbars 1 whose upper extremities are formedto provide molding-engaging hooks 2 which are adapted to be engaged with the molding as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. Identically formed sup,- porting members 3 are carried by the supporting bars, and as shown, each supporting member is provided with longitudinally extending slots 4 for receiving the horizontally disposed plates 5 which extend through flanges 6 of brackets 7. The outer ends of the plates 5 are formed to provide rectangular slots 8 for receiving the wedge-shaped locking keys 9. Adjacent to the rear ends,
the plates 5 are formed to provide vertical apertures 10 for receiving the supporting rods 1. From the construct-ion described it will be seen that the supporting members may be adjusted. at proper distances apart on the supporting rods 1 and held thereto in such adjusted positions by the locking keys 9. These keys are of such construction that their frictional engagement with the flanged portions 6 ofthe brackets and the outer end walls of the slots 8 serve to force the supporting members into frictional engagement with the supporting rods. The bracket-s 7 are provided with apertures 11 for receiving the pintles 12 of rollers 13. These rollers may be of any approved construction for accommodating the maps 14:. The construction is such that the maps are arranged in superimposed relation and they may be manipulated so that one may be displayed independently of the other.
I claim:
A device of the class described, comprising superimposed supporting members, S1134.
pending means for said members, said supporting members being formed with longitudinal slots, brackets secured'to said supporting members and provided with slots alining with the slots in the members, plates carried by said suspending means and- Y adapted to engage the slots in the said supporting members and brackets, and wedgeshaped keys slidably mounted in said plates, said keys serving to secure the brackets on the supporting members and the support-ing members to the suspending means.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
