Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 8, 1907.
Application filed May 9,1907. Serial No- 372,656.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK H. OonwiN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Itiverhead, in the county of Suffolk and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Display-Rack, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention has for its primary object to provide a rack adapted to hold and display cards and photographs, and to enable a particular card to be inserted into or removed from any part of the rack without disturbing the other cards therein.
Other objects relating to the specific construction and special arrangement of the several parts of the device will be understood from the following description and accompanying drawings, which illustrate my invention in its preferred form, in which drawings like characters of reference indicate like parts throughout the views, and in which Figure l is a front elevation of a support, and a plurality of racks shown in side and front elevation and vertical section respectively; Fig. 2 is a horizontal section taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line 33 of 1.
As illustrated in the drawings, 1 represents a standard or support which may be flat, and adapted to be attached to a wall or post, or of any'other suitable construction. Hinge plates 2 are attached to the standard 1 in any suitable manner, and provided with sockets or apertures adapted to receive hinge pins 3 attached to or formed upon the inner bars 4 of racks, to which are attached the inner ends of a plurality of transverse supporting members 5 provided with lateral flanges 6 cut away at 7 intermediate their ends so as to permit cards to be inserted into said members without passing them through the outer end thereof. The supporting members oi'the rack, other than the top and bottom members, are preferably constructed of similar channeled bars arranged back to back, the flanges of each member extending in opposite directions as shown in Fig. 3. The outer ends of the supporting members 5 are connected by means of vertical bars 8 intermediate the flanges 6 of the transverse supporting members 5, and the supporting members are provided with stops 9 adapted to prevent lateral displacement of cards arranged within the racks.
The supporting members 5 are made of sufficient width to hold any desired number of cards, which may be arranged longitudinally or vertically therein. As shown in Fig. 1, the cards 1.0 are arranged horizontally and ,the cards 11 vertically in the rack, the inner and outer series of cards 10 being separated by means of the stops 9.
By means of such construction the inner series of cards 10 may be inserted in place in the rack through the cut-away portions 7, without disturbing the cards in the outer section of the same compartment of the rack,
the latter cards being inserted into their compartment and removed therefrom through the open outer end of the compartment, shown in Fig. 2. When the cards are arranged vertically, as indicated by 11 in Fig. 1, the outer cards are inserted in the outer open end of the compartment, while the two inner sets of cards are inserted and removed through the cut-away portion 7 of the flanges oi the rack. By means of the double construction of these racks and the width of the supporting members, a double set of photographs may be'inserted in each of the several sections of each compartment, so that each rack may display a plurality of sets or cards or photographs on the front and back of the rack respectively, and one or more cards of each set may be removed from any desired set without disturbing the other cards of the rack.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: 1. A display rack having a plurality of sections pivotally mounted upon suitable supports, each section having transverse members provided with lateral flanges cutaway intermediate their ends, and stops extending transversely of said members dividing said members into sections.
2. -A display rack having a plurality of transverse members provided with flanges cutaway intermediate their ends, stops extending transversely of said members dividing said members into sections, and a vertical bar con nceted to the outer ends of said members intermediate the sides thereof.
3. A display rack having an inner bar adapted to be pivotally mounted upon a suitable support, a plurality of supporting members provided with lateral flanges cutaway intermediate their ends, and stops extending transversely of said members dividing said members into sections, and a vertical bar connecting the outer ends of said members intermediate the sides thereof.
4. A display rack having a plurality of transverse supporting members arranged back to back, and each provided with lateral flanges extending in opposite directions, and cut-away intermediate their ends, stops extending transversely of said members, and a vertical bar connecting said members at their outer ends intermediate their width.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FRANK H. CORWIN.
