PAPER-BAG RACK.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM M. LIsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lynchburg, in the county of Campbell and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paper-Bag Racks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to certain improvements in a paper bag rack and it is an object of the invention to provide a device of this general character wherein a plurality of holding units are provided each of which being adapted to retain a package or stack of bags in a manner whereby such bags may readily be separately removed.

Another object of the invention is to pro vide a rack of this general character adapted to conveniently support for ready access and removal bags of different sizes or capacities whereby my improved rack is particularly adapted for use in stores handling general merchandise.

The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved paper bag rack whereby certain important advantages are attained and. the de vice rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth. a

The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.

In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a paper bag rack constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention;

My improved rack comprises a hollow column C of requisite dimensions and provided therearound with a plurality of angularly related and substantially flat faces 1. Each of the faces 1 at a required distance above each of the shelves 2 is provided with the transversely disposed openings 5 extending therethrough on a downward and inward incline and freely insertable through such openings 5 are the side members 6 of a substantially rectangular clamping member M formed of wire or other suitable material. The inner or inserted cross bar 7 of the member M at substantially its longitudinal center is provided with an eye 8 to which is suitably secured a weighted member 11 whereby said member M is constantly urged inwardly so that the outer or exterior cross bar 12 of the member M will be maintained in requisite clamping action upon a package or bundle B of bags.

The upper portion of each package or bundle of bags is straddled by the exterior portion of a member M and the outer cross bar 12 at substantially its longitudinal center is also provided with an outstanding eye member 14 to provide means whereby the member M may be withdrawn outwardly to an extent sufficient to permit the desired replenishing of the supply of bags.

From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that a paper bag rack constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of .some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.

I claim 1. A rack of the class described comprising a supporting wall, an outstanding shelf carried thereby, a pair of transversely spaced openings extending through the wall above the shelf, said openings being disposed on a downward and inward incline, a substantially rectangular clamping member having its side bars freely disposed through said openings in the wall, and a weighted member carried by the inner cross bar for constanth urging the outer cross bar toward the Wall.

2. A rack of the class described comprising a supporting Wall, an outstanding shelf carried thereby, a pair of transversely spaced openings extending through the Wall above the shelf, said openings being disposed on a downward and inward incline, a substantially rectangular clamping member having its side bars freely disposed through said opel'iings' in the wall, and a weighted member 'arried by the inner cross bar for constantly urging the outer cross bar to- Ward the Wall, said outer cross bar being provided at its central part with an outstanding member to provide hand grasps to facilitate the manual movement of said outer cross bar away from the Wall.
