EUGENE VON VARGYAS AND JOSEPH W. DEIDRICK, OF PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA.
COLLAPSIBLE DRINKING RECEPTACLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May *7, 1912.
Application filed July 24, 1911 Serial No. 640,222.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, (1) EUGENE VON VAnGYAs, a subject of the King of Hungary, and JOSEPH \V. DI'IIDRHK. citizen of the United States of An'ierica. residing at Pittsburgh, in the county ofAllcghei'i and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collapsible Drinking-Receptacles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to collapsible drinking receptacles, and the objects of our invention are to prm'ide a sanitary drinking cup that can be made of a. single piece of metarial folded to form a non-leakable receptacle and to provide a drinking cup that an be easily carried in the pocket in a collapsible position.
\Ve obtain the above objects by a mechanial construction that will be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed.
Referencewill now be had to the drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a plan of a blank from which the cup is made. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the blank portions t'olded. Fig. 3 is a plan of the cup, and Fig. r is an enlarged lmrizoi'ital sectional view, taken on the line IV--IV of Fig. 3.
A cup in accordance with this invention is made of a piece of strong and durable paper having water proof qualifications and a piece of paper is cut to form a blank haviug polygonal sections 1 and 2 adapted to be folded onc upon the other upon the dot and dash line It. The outer edge of the section 1. intermediate the ends thereof. is rounded. as at t. and thc outer edge of the section 2. intermediate the ends thereof. is straight. as at 5. The advantage of this construction is that whcn the section 2 is folded upon the section 1. the rounded edge 4 of the section 1 is cxposcd above the straight edge of the section 2, thereby permitting of these edges being easily gripped to open the side walls of the receptacle, as will presently appear.
After the section 2 folded upon the section 1 the ends of the sections are folded upon the dot and dash lines 6 and the folded flaps T are overlapped upon the section 2 and the ends thereof connected by a staple 8. stitches or other fastening means. The t'oldcd flaps are held in engagement with the section 2, when the side edges of the receptacle are pressed toward each other to separate the walls of the receptacle whereby water or other liquid can be collected in the same.
It is apparent that the drinking cup is inexpensive to manufacture and that it can be advantageously used for advertisement purposes.
\Vhat. we claim is:
A drinking cup in substantially flat form made from a substantially rectangular blank incut at its ends making the blank narr. west at its central transverse line to form two opposed side members, the marginal portions of the side members constituting tlaps, one llap along one side edge of each side member being toldcd against one side of the cup. and the [laps along the opposite side edges of the members being t'oldcd against the same side of the cup, the tlaps t'olded trom one side edge of the cup overlying the llaps toldcd from the other side edge of the cup. and a securing means passed through all ot the tlaps at their overlapped portions.
in testimony whereof we attix our signaturcs in the presence of two witnesses.
